2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat beats Mustang GT500 and Camaro ZL1/Z28

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

Ottawa Dodge has a variety of new models to choose from, but for those who want to purchase a 2015 Challenger there is no better option than Ottawa Dodge. Not only do we keep a large selection of Challenger’s on hand, we have the popular Hellcat model incoming, and our prices are among the best in the area.

Why Choose the Hellcat?

When it comes to muscle cars with power and speed, you don’t have to look any further than the Challenger SRT Hellcat, complete with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI engine.

As powerful as that sounds, you need to get behind the wheel to realize just what it can do for you. Consider this: the engine is capable of achieving 707 hp and a quarter mile time of 11.2 seconds stock, and 10.8 seconds on drag radials. You might as well be driving a racecar!

What about the price? For performance like this, many believe the Hellcat will set them back close to $100k, however, this is not the case. Dodge has priced this model starting at $59,995, which is a bargain for how much power you get in return.

Mustang GT500

The Ford Mustang GT500 has plenty of power under the hood, thanks to a 5.8L supercharged aluminum-block V8 that puts out 662 hp.

Yes, this vehicle is fast. Yes, this vehicle can “get up and go” in a hurry, thanks to its 631 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm, but when compared to the Hellcat, it comes up short. It simply doesn’t have the same level of speed and power as the Hellcat.

Camaro ZL1/Z28

Chevrolet has been hanging its hat on the Camaro for many years. The ZL1 and Z28 are great examples of American muscle cars, but much the same as the Mustang, it cannot compete head to head with the Hellcat in terms of power and performance.

The ZL1, for example, features an all-aluminum 6.2L supercharged engine that delivers 580 hp and 556 lb.-ft. of torque. The performance of this engine is superior to most vehicles on the road, just not the Hellcat, coming up more than 120 hp short.

When it comes to American muscle, no car can outperform the Challenger SRT Hellcat.

2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Do you remember the days when the Grand Caravan was one of the most popular cars on the road? While the minivan market has slacked off a bit over the past few years, due in large part to the increase in popularity of the SUV, there are many reasons why Ottawa Dodge continues to be the best Dodge dealer in Ottawa and continues to sell Dodge Grand Caravans!

The Grand Caravan is top dog for a variety of reasons. Here are a few that you should keep in mind if the time comes to shop for a minivan:

  • A starting price of $20,595, which is more affordable than most SUVs of similar size and much lower then the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna
  • Gas mileage of 17/25 mpg, allowing you to move from Point A to Point B without wasting too much gas
  • Six available models, allowing you to get exactly what you want from your minivan

Modern Technology

It is amazing to see how far the minivan has come over the years, but you don’t have to look any further than the inside of the Grand Caravan to see the progress.

For example, it is the first and only minivan to offer a dual-screen Blu-ray and DVD Video Entertainment System. Forget about everybody in the backseat having to watch the same video. With this type of entertainment system, it is easier for everybody to enjoy their ride.

While many companies have abandoned the minivan market, Dodge has come to realize that this is a place where it should be spending its time and money. The new Dodge Grand Caravan has it all, including a low starting price, a variety of models, and interior features that are sure to excite every driver as well as their passengers.

2014 Dodge Durango

For those in the market for a Full Size SUV the Durango may be for you. If you want a Durango, or any other Dodge vehicle, Ottawa Dodge is more than willing to help you find the one that is right for you – no matter what it takes.

The Durango has been one of the most popular SUVs on the market for many years. Since 1997, it has been providing drivers with a high level of performance, on road and off, as well as good looks, both inside and out.

When Dodge rolled out the 2014 Durango, people from one side of the world to the next were surprised at how many changes the company was able to make. It was not that the older generation had nothing to offer, but the most recent model took things to the next level (and beyond).

First Look at the New York Auto Show

The 2013 New York Auto Show is where the media and public got their first look at the new Durango. Its sportier lines and eight speed automatic transmission were the most talked about features, however, that is just the start.

One of the primary reasons for the early success of this model is the attention to detail. It does not matter if you are sitting in the driver’s seat or admiring the good looks from afar, you will realize that Dodge did not cut any corners when designing and building this vehicle.

Despite the fact that the 2014 Durango often appears smaller from those from the past, especially the first generation, nothing could be further from the truth. Once you get inside, you will realize that you have all the space you need. And of course, as you load supplies in the trunk, you will really see how much room is available.

If you have yet to check out the new Durango, head to Ottawa Dodge. Don’t get caught thinking this is the same as models from the past, or you could miss out on an opportunity to make a great buying decision.

Building on the Durango’s distinctive, sporty design, along with class-leading power, driving range and towing, the Blacktop Package features unique Gloss Black 20-inch aluminum wheels, dual rear exhaust with bright tips offering 295 horsepower with the V-6 and 360 horsepower with the HEMI® V-8, a Gloss Black crosshair grille with matching grille surround, Gloss Black side mirrors, Gloss Black exterior badging, black headlamp bezels, body color fascia and moldings, and five options for exterior paint colors. The Blacktop Appearance Package is available on Durango SXT, Limited and R/T models.

“The rear-wheel-drive based Dodge Durango is already one of a kind. It stands out as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO – Dodge Brand and SRT Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Now with Blacktop Package, customers can make it even more unique, and it’s customized by the factory.”

Through July, Dodge Durango sales in 2014 were up 13 percent, compared with the same period in 2013. Durango has achieved 19 consecutive months of year-over-year retail sales increases.

The 2014 Dodge Durango Blacktop will start arriving at dealerships in October.

2014 Dodge Durango Blacktop
Dodge introduced its new three-row Durango for the 2014 model year, with a new standard eight-speed automatic transmission, improved fuel economy and performance, new LED exterior lighting, including the signature racetrack tail lamp, new 5-inch or 8.4-inch touch screen, a new programmable instrument cluster and an available high-definition dual-screen Blu-ray entertainment system.

Now Dodge is adding the Blacktop Package to the Durango SXT, Limited and R/T models, adding even more aggression to the already sporty appearance.  The Blacktop Appearance Package gives customers the opportunity to customize their Durango straight from the factory at a tremendous value.

On SXT models, the Blacktop Package adds Gloss Black 20-inch aluminum wheels, dual rear exhaust with bright tips, Gloss Black crosshair grille with matching grille surround, Gloss Black side mirrors, Gloss Black badging, black headlamp bezels, and body-color fascias and moldings. Blacktop is available for a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of only $1,590 MSRP.

On Limited models, the Blacktop Package includes all of the above content, plus HID headlamps and LED daytime running lights (DRLs), to complement its premium leather interior, for a starting U.S. MSRP of $1,990.

On the R/T, the Blacktop Package adds Gloss Black 20-inch aluminum wheels, Gloss Black crosshair grille with matching grille surround and Gloss Black badging for a U.S. MSRP of $295.

Available in Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal and Redline Red, the Gloss Black accents are prominent on the monochromatic exterior body of the Durango SXT, Limited and R/T Blacktop models.

The Dodge Durango SXT Blacktop and Limited Blacktop feature Durango’s standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and dual exhaust with active intake, paired with the new standard eight-speed automatic transmission and generates an impressive 295 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, and can tow up to a best-in-class 6,200 pounds. The V-6 powered Durango also features a best-in-class driving range of more than 600 miles on a tank and up to 25 miles per gallon.

The Dodge Durango R/T Blacktop features a standard 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces a best-in-class 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque with a best-in-class tow rating of 7,400 pounds. The 5.7-liter engine’s Fuel Saver Technology with cylinder-deactivation seamlessly alternates between smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power is in demand. Models with the HEMI V-8 engine achieve up to 23 miles per gallon.

With standard seven-passenger seating and luxurious second-row captain’s chairs available on all models, the seats in the 2014 Dodge Durango can be converted to as many as 50 different configurations.

Families with three or more children will find the Durango’s available captain’s chairs with pass-through especially helpful as two car seats can stay latched into the second row seats, and there’s still easy pass-through for passengers to walk between to get to the third row. The second-row captain’s chairs will also make adults feel like they are riding in first-class, with available Nappa Leather heated bucket seats with individual armrests.

The Durango’s new instrument panel features a redesigned center stack that houses the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The bottom of the center stack houses a new media hub with an SD card slot, USB outlet and auxiliary jacks, as well as a storage bin. The new center console features a new segment-first rotary shifter for the standard eight-speed automatic that adds another level of refinement over the traditional gated automatic shifter. Manual shift functions have moved to paddle shifters on the back of the Durango’s new steering wheel.

2015 Dodge Charger

2015 Dodge Charger

Restyled with a confident “superhero” stance
Spiritually inspired by the iconic second-generation Charger from the late 1960s, Charger Pursuit’s easily recognizable Coke-bottle design and scalloped body sides , sinister front crosshairs and aggressive stance and signature LED “racetrack” tail lamps all get a major makeover for 2015 with cleaner lines to create a sleek, chiseled, nimble and lighter weight appearance. The exterior redesign includes changes to the hood, fenders, front and rear fascias, headlamps, tail lamps and front doors.

Starting up front, the 2015 Charger Pursuit’s new front styling features an all-new crosshair grille, LED turn signals and daytime running lights (DRLs), and new projector-beam headlamps. The Charger’s all-new forward-leaning front fascia gives it a superhero’s confident stance. Slim, elongated DRLs and a full-width grille enhance the width of the sedan, while Dodge logos are echoed in the outside corner of each headlamp for added detail.

In profile, the 2015 Charger carries forward its muscular Coke-bottle styling, with streamlined side scallops, while headlamps and tail lamps are now wrapped around each corner to create a trimmer, more lightweight look.

At the rear, the C-pillar has been moved rearward to create an even more pronounced fastback appearance. Dodge Charger Pursuit’s signature “racetrack” LED tail lamp has been updated with the same continuous glowing light ribbon technology that first debuted on the new Dodge Durango. The center high-mounted stop lamp is relocated from the top of the deck lid to the roofline inside the back glass, allowing for the centering of the backup camera.

Mobile command center with all-new state-of-the-art technologies
As the new Charger Pursuit was designed and engineered alongside the new 2015 Dodge Charger, the driver-focused interior has been significantly upgraded with the high-tech treatment. A new 7-inch full-color multi-view instrument gauge cluster offers more than 100 intuitive ways to customize how information is presented. At the center, a new instrument panel center stack with next-generation Uconnect 5.0 system with 5-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth is standard equipment. New for 2015, every Charger Pursuit includes hands-free Uconnect Phone standard.

Framing the Charger’s new instrument cluster is a newly redesigned three-spoke thick rim sport steering wheel. The buttons to control driver information functions are now larger and illuminated to make them easier to operate. Buttons for Uconnect and mobile phone access now reside along the bottom edge of the horizontal spokes, while audio controls are found on the back of the steering wheel spokes.

Developed with the guidance of the brand’s Police Advisory Board, the new 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit features a mobile-command interior with a new vehicle systems interface module for easy equipment integration, police-duty front seats with unique bolstering to accommodate officers’ belt-mounted gear and column-mounted shifter with Auto Stick to free up space for center-console mounted controls.

New advanced safety and security features
In addition to its standing as a 2013 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) “Top Safety Pick,” the Dodge Charger Pursuit surrounds the heroic men and women who protect with uncompromising safety and security technology, including standard advanced multistage driver and front-passenger air bags, seat-mounted side-thorax air bags, supplemental side-curtain air bags for front and rear outboard passengers and a driver’s knee bag.

Mopar factory upfit equipment provides customers with quality-tested equipment and hassle-free ordering and servicing
For the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit, Dodge and Mopar have teamed up to offer law enforcement officers with the ability to customize their vehicle to their exact specifications right from the manufacturer. To enhance Dodge Charger Pursuit’s world-class levels of technology, safety, handling and efficient power, Mopar worked with leading-industry upfit suppliers to develop the best combination of tactical equipment and performance.

Mopar conducted extensive testing to ensure that its police upfit equipment meets and exceeds the heavy-duty durability cycle and tests requirements of the Dodge Charger Pursuit.

The base police prep package for the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit includes the following:

  • Emergency equipment electrical system wire harness: Capable of providing the appropriate power, ground and fusing for a variety LED, lighting, siren, computer, modem, or camera systems. The wire harness integrates with both the Vehicle Systems Interference Module (VSIM) 24-way connector and the 12-pin connector that Chrysler Group provides at the console
  • Power distribution center (PDC): Contains the fusing and relays for circuits contained in the wire harness. The PDC is supplied from the battery with two 100-amp main fuses. These fuses are separated in order to accommodate departments that wish to control some circuits with a timing device. For installers who want to use timer systems to prevent power drains on the battery, the PDC will accept the device’s output and channel it to the usual elements controlled by timers, including camera, computer, modem and printer systems
  • Slide-out trunk tray: Provides a stable, easily accessible platform on which the installer can position and install electrical equipment. The trunk tray provides a 37.5-inch by 19-inch mounting surface for electrical and communications gear. Locking slides provide movement, allowing a technician easier access to equipment mounted to the tray. An industry-first integral ground buss bar helps eliminate poor grounding, the most common police equipment issue. The tray is adjustable and allows for a variety of equipment heights and needs
  • Trunk air-circulation fan: Stabilizes trunk temperature in a relatively short period of time, helping all trunk-mounted electronic equipment to function properly by circulating heated or cooled air from the driver’s compartment into the trunk area
  • Siren speaker: Provides a 100-watt siren driver that is certified to meet SAE Class A and California Title XIII requirements when matched with an appropriate siren amplifier. Given that the system is mounted behind the grille, the look of the vehicle remains clean, while the siren location does not impact engine cooling

The wiring prep package for the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit includes the following:

  • Emergency equipment electrical system wire harness: Capable of providing the appropriate power, ground and fusing for a variety LED, lighting, siren, computer, modem or camera systems.
For installers who want to use timer systems to prevent power drains on the battery, the PDC will accept the device’s output and channel it to the usual elements controlled by timers, including camera, computer, modem and printer systems

In addition to these packages, the following Mopar parts may be ordered separately:

  • Police floor console
  • Spare-tire relocation bracket
  • Horizontal and vertical vinyl graphics
  • Ballistic door panels for driver and passenger doors (Protection: NIJ Level III+)
  • Steel seat back inserts for driver and passenger seats

2014 Jeep Wrangler

2014 Jeep Wrangler

As you search Jeep dealers in Ottawa, you may become more and more interested in buying a Wrangler. While there is a lot to like about this car, just from the looks alone, you have to own one to get the full effect.

There are many things about the Wrangler that may surprise you (all in a good way, of course).

1. The interior space. Many believe that the interior of the Wrangler is small, but once you load it with gear and people a couple times you will realize that nothing is further from the truth.

2. Gas mileage. The Wrangler does not achieve the best gas mileage in its class, however, it has come a long way since the early days. When compared to similar vehicles, you will be happy to see that this model stacks up well in this department, allowing you to cover plenty of ground on a single tank.

3. Comfort. Despite the fact that the Wrangler is built to dominate the off road scene, don’t automatically believe this means bad things when you are on the pavement. Take a Wrangler on the open road and you will enjoy the ride.

These are just a few of the many ways a Jeep Wrangler may surprise you. You can learn a lot about this vehicle by checking one out in person and taking a test drive, but the real learning experience begins when you take one home. If this model is right for you, don’t delay in making a purchase. If you think you love it now, wait until you are behind the wheel on a daily basis. That is when the real obsession will begin!

The problems with owning a Jeep Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited

$
0
0
2014 Jeep Wrangler

2014 Jeep Wranlger

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most unique vehicles you can buy today. In a sea of crossover SUVs and sedans, it maintains the unique design–on top of incredible durability–that helped it acquire a base of admirers and buyers over the past two decades.

Whether you own a Jeep Wrangler or are simply looking for more information about the vehicle, here are five problems (that aren’t really problems) you won’t understand until you own a Wrangler.

  1. Everyone Wants a Ride

Let’s face it, if you own a Jeep Wrangler and your friends are all driving bland sedans, they’re going to want to ride with you when the opportunity presents itself. The problem is, you’ve got limited seating in a standard XJ–and even if it looks like rain everyone wants you to leave the top at home.

  1. Waving to Fellow Wrangler Owners

While the camaraderie between Wrangler owners is great–and the friendly, outgoing community is priceless–sometimes the waving can become a chore. Commuters with Wranglers know this all too well. You may go 10 kilometers without seeing a fellow Wrangler, but there are also times that you may see 5 in just a single kilometer. And if you don’t wave or see one too late, you may feel guilty!

  1. The Desire to Go Off-road (All the Time)

If you’ve ever sat in heavy traffic wishing there were an instant bypass, it only gets worse as a Jeep Wrangler owner. You see ways your Jeep could escape the traffic jam and get you to work or back home faster. That temptation could lead to trouble when you barrel through someone’s field.

  1. Too Many Accessories and Possible Modifications

Lifts, tires, tops, headlights, seat covers–there’s always one more thing you need to make your Wrangler awesome. But all of those accessories and modifications add up. Wrangler owners often complain about having too many options when it comes to these things.

The new 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is powered by the new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 engine. Its 707 horsepower matches the highest rating of any V-8 engine in Chrysler Group’s celebrated history – that of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

The all-new supercharged V-8 engine is mated to the beefy new TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight-speed automatic transmission.

This new Hellcat engine is Dodge and SRT’s first application of V-8 supercharger technology, featuring a forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearing surfaces. The result is a crank so well-engineered it can withstand firing pressures of 110 bar (1,595 psi) – the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston, every two revolutions. And its unique, specially tuned crank damper has been tested to 13,000 rpm.

High-strength, forged-alloy pistons, developed using advanced telemetry measurement, are coupled to powder-forged connecting rods with high-load-capacity bushings and diamond-like-carbon-coated piston pins.

The supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 has premium-grade, heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads, which are optimized for superior thermal conductivity. And its die-cast aluminum rocker covers are HEMI Orange.

Standard on the Charger SRT Hellcat is the largest front-brake package ever offered in a Chrysler Group vehicle, which were first introduced on the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat, featuring all-new 390-mm (15.4-inch) Brembo two-piece rotors with six-piston calipers for outstanding heat management and thermal capacity and longevity.

The unrivaled four-door performance numbers tell an impressive story with the quarter mile in 11.0 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in under 13 seconds, and a top speed of 204 mile per hour (mph).

All-new Drive Modes tailor the driving experience to each individual driver

Whether its on-road or on-track, Charger SRT Hellcat owners can personalize their drive experience, via the all-new Drive Modes feature. Drive Modes tailor the driving experience by controlling horsepower, transmission shift speeds, paddle shifters, traction and suspension. Drive Modes are pre-configured for Sport, Track and Default settings, while the Custom setting lets the driver customize the drive experience to their favorite settings.

  • Custom — Allows the driver to personalize the vehicle’s performance
  • Sport — Delivers increased vehicle performance capability over the Default Mode
  • Track — Delivers maximum vehicle performance capability on smooth, dry surfaces
  • Default — Activates automatically when starting the vehicle
  • Eco — Maximizes fuel economy with a revised shift schedule, pedal map and second-gear starts

The Drive Modes feature is controlled through the Uconnect system and may be accessed by performing any of the following:

  • Pushing the SRT button on the instrument panel switch bank
  • Selecting “Drive Modes” from the “SRT & Apps” menu
  • Selecting “Drive Modes” from within the Performance Pages menu

Unlocking the power

The all-new 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat comes standard with two key fobs – red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full horsepower and torque potential of the SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output.

When Valet Mode is activated, the following vehicle configurations are enabled:

  • Engine is remapped to significantly reduce horsepower and torque; limited to 4,000 rpm
  • Transmission locks out access to first gear and upshifts earlier than normal
  • Transmission will treat the manual shifter position the same as the drive position
  • Traction, steering and suspension are set to their “Street” settings
  • Steering-wheel paddle shifters are disabled
  • Drive Mode functions are disabled
  • Electronic stability control (ESC) is enabled to Full-on
  • Launch Control is disabled

The driver can activate and deactivate Valet Mode with a four-digit PIN code they create.

Sinister, functional exterior design

Inspired by its performance-enthusiast roots when Charger first launched more than 45 years ago, the new Charger successfully pays homage to past muscle cars while offering distinctly modern all-new exterior and interior appointments.

The Dodge and SRT design team builds upon the 2015 Dodge Charger’s new modern four-door fastback coupe’s already iconic exterior styling by adding a sinister-looking, unique front fascia, hood, rear fascia and spoiler.

The new exterior of the 2015 Dodge Charger is spiritually inspired by the iconic second-generation Charger from the late 1960s, and for 2015, specifically draws its cues from the 1969 model. With its rear-wheel-drive (RWD) platform and proven power, the Charger’s modern take on old-school muscle is sure to resonate with today’s enthusiasts.

Up front, the Charger SRT Hellcat receives the larger, power-bulge aluminum hood, which features a dedicated “cold-air” intake – a visual styling cue from the first Viper coupe built in 1996 – and dual air extractors to ensure effective removal of heat and reduced air turbulence in the engine compartment.

The redesigned front fascia and grille use unique, blacked out upper and lower textures to produce the menacing look that is sure to make onlookers notice the ultimate performance sedan.

An integrated front splitter optimizes airflow to the cooling modules without compromising vehicle balance.

Filling the wheel wells are “Slingshot” split-seven spoke 20 x 9.5-inch, lightweight forged-aluminum wheels with either standard Matte Black or available Brass Monkey/dark bronze finishes.

Two new 275/40ZR20 Pirelli P Zero tires provide performance for all seasons. Both Pirelli P Zero Nero and P Zero tires are Y-Plus rated to handle the extreme speeds the Charger SRT Hellcat is capable of producing.

At the rear, a single piece decked spoiler is painted in body color while the unique fascia and valence showcase the 4-inch round exhaust tips.

The Dodge Charger SRT’s signature “racetrack” LED tail lamps take on the same continuous glowing ribbon of light that debuted on the new 2014 Dodge Durango.

The center high-mounted stop lamp is relocated from the top of the deck lid to the roofline inside the back glass, allowing centering of the Charger SRT’s backup camera.

The rear styling makeover begins at the touchdown point of the C-pillar, which is moved rearward to create an even more pronounced fastback appearance combined with a shorter rear overhang.

High-performance driver-oriented interior

The 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat’s restyled driver-focused interior features premium, soft-touch materials, a new 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) customizable digital instrument gauge cluster and a new instrument panel center stack with the latest generation 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen media center.

New for 2015, drivers can select one of the many offered backgrounds to connect the digital look and feel with their chosen interior package. In addition, the Charger SRT Hellcat comes standard with a premium 900 watt, 18-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.

An all-new and class-exclusive electronic shifter with an all-new driver-oriented T-handle provides the driver with intuitive gear selection and offers an Auto Stick selector gate for added control.

A redesigned SRT-branded heated steering wheel features a flat bottom and thick rim for the high-performance driver. Standard paddle shifters are located on the back of the upper spokes. The buttons to control the driver-configurable, full-color thin-film transistor (TFT) display are large and illuminated. Buttons for Uconnect and phone access now reside along the bottom edge of the horizontal spokes. Optional adaptive cruise control is configured by buttons that are symmetrically opposite on the right-hand side of the wheel. As before, the highly praised audio controls are still found on the back of the upper spokes. This new power tilt-telescoping steering wheel also has a 360-degree heat element.

The new 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat features redesigned seats with improved cushioning and more comfortable contours. For improved comfort and convenience, the SRT Hellcat includes standard heated and ventilated front high-performance seats and heated rear seats.

Charger continues to grow its market share

The 2015 Dodge Charger competes in the U.S. full-size car market, but stands alone in a class by itself as the only American-bred four-door muscle car. In March of 2014, the Dodge brand reached a significant milestone, with Challenger and Charger sales combining to sell a total of more than 1 million units in the United States.

The Charger’s combination of aggressive and youthful image, full-size functionality and world-class engineering and quality resonates with young and affluent buyers. Charger’s purchasers on average are 15 years younger than its competitors’ buyers within the segment, with more than half identifying themselves as millennials or Generation Xers.

The Charger’s appeal is attracting a high number of conquest buyers, helping drive a 62 percent increase in sales since 2009 – double the growth of the standard full-size car segment. In 2013, Charger posted its best sales year since 2007, further fueling a 3.2 percentage point gain in market share since 2009.

August 12, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today named the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan a 2014 Top Safety Pick +, its highest rating, when equipped with front crash prevention.

“The 200 aced the challenging small overlap front test with a good rating in every measurement category,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund. “Chrysler should also be commended for offering forward collision warning with autonomous braking on this mainstream midsize car. Our research shows that these systems are effective in preventing some kinds of crashes from happening altogether.”

IIHS testing simulates a side impact with a large SUV or pickup truck, front moderate-offset impact, roof-crush consistent with a rollover, a rear collision capable of inducing whiplash, a new small-offset frontal impact and new crash prevention evaluation.  In the small overlap test IIHS notes that “the driver’s space was maintained well, and injury measures recorded on the dummy indicated a low risk of any significant injuries in a real-world crash of this severity.” In each of the tests the 2015 Chrysler 200 recorded the highest ratings.

“The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 will be the new benchmark for mid-size sedans, offering customers a beautifully-crafted sedan loaded with features drivers and passengers appreciate, an exceptional driving experience, fuel economy of up to 36 mpg highway, all at an exceptional value” said Al Gardner, President and CEO — Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.  “With a standard nine-speed transmission, innovative available all-wheel-drive system and 60 safety and security features, the IIHS Top Safety Pick + rating for the new 200 is the icing on the cake for customers, giving them added peace of mind.”

  • Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus: that, under certain circumstances can bring the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 to full stop without driver intervention
  • Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus: a Chrysler Group first that provides autonomous braking and, under certain circumstances, slows or brings the vehicle to a full stop when a frontal collision appears imminent
  • ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist: uses ultrasonic sensors to guide the driver into parking spaces. The perpendicular park assist function is a segment first

Also unique to the 2015 Chrysler 200 is the segment-exclusive standard electronic park brake with SafeHold, which secures the vehicle if the driver opens the door and unlatches the seat belt while forward or reverse gears are still engaged.

SRT Motorsports Makes its Trans Am Series Debut with Dodge Challenger SRT

Dodge Challenger SRT Trans-Am racing

August 14, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - SRT ® (Street and Racing Technology) Motorsports will make its debut into the Trans Am Series when Miller Racing fields two all-new Dodge Challenger SRTs at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Aug 15-16. Four-time series champion Tommy Kendall makes his re-entrance and first Trans Am start since 2004 in the TA2 series class this weekend.

As SRT Motorsports partners with Miller Racing to enter Trans Am competition for the balance of the 2014 season, Kendall will drive the No. 11 Dodge Challenger SRT while teammate and TA2 points leader Cameron Lawrence will drive the No. 1 Challenger beginning at the Mid-Ohio race, an event Lawrence won in 2013.

The mid-season manufacturer switch by Miller Racing will give the team a more-robust support base. It also brings Kendall back to the series where he won four championships in the 1990s (1990, 1995-1997). The move will also mark Dodge’s debut into the TA2 class of the Trans Am road racing series.

Kendall, who last competed in the Trans Am Series in 2004, is best known for winning championships in Trans Am and IMSA, as well as his victory in the 1995 Rolex 24 At Daytona. The heralded driver also serves as a television analyst for Fox Sports 1 and NBC Sports.

“I’ve wanted to return to Trans Am competition for the longest time and then I finally kind of accepted that it wasn’t going to happen,” said Kendall. “It’s funny how things work. Being coaxed back into the Viper GTS-R program back in 2012 helped pave the way to my return. Over the last 10–15 years, I’ve committed to only doing things that are fun. Trans Am was a huge part of my professional life and to get to play a small part in keeping up the visibility here is really exciting.”
Kendall has the third most Trans Am victories with 28, while Lawrence has captured 14 wins in 21 series starts since 2012.

As Miller Racing switches manufacturers to Dodge, Lawrence will retain his TA2 class points. The 21-year-old driver currently holds a 35-point margin over second place.

“We definitely want to continue the success we’ve had and we’re really excited to bring Dodge on board,” said Lawrence. “We want to stay on top and keep the season rolling with the momentum we’ve had. It’d be really cool to get some wins for Dodge and SRT Motorsports this season, and although it’s going to be tough adapting halfway through the season, we’re going to do our best to get the Dodge Challenger SRT to victory lane.”

Miller Racing was formed in 2012 and the team captured the 2013 Trans Am TA2 class title when Lawrence won eight of 10 events, including the last seven-consecutive races. The team has captured 18 Trans Am victories in 26 races over three seasons.

In addition to the Trans Am partnership with Miller Racing, SRT Motorsports also fields two Dodge Viper SRT GTS-Rs in the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, and supports a customer racing program with the Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R in the IMSA TUDOR series, Pirelli World Challenge and Supercar Challenge.

The Miller Racing Dodge Challenger SRTs and Kendall will first compete in The 3-Dimensional Services Next Dimension 100 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Friday, Aug. 15. Round seven of the 2014 Trans Am Championship will take place alongside the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Mid-Ohio this weekend. Lawrence will look to defend his 2013 Mid-Ohio victory, which was his fourth of eight victories en route to the 2013 title.

SRT Quotes for Mid-Ohio

Tommy Kendall, driver, No. 11 Dodge Challenger SRT, Miller Racing
Are you excited to team with Cameron Lawrence and Mike Miller?

“I’ve been following the series and, needless to say, I’m quite familiar with Cameron (Lawrence). I didn’t realize it was the same Mike Miller that used to run the Roush cars way, way back. I’ve watched Cameron. I always ran the No. 11, so he ran the No. 11 and we became friends on Facebook. I was kind of cheering him on because he’s a hell of a young talent. It’s a little interesting to be coming back with a fair amount of anticipation, but to me he’s the guy to beat. I’m really glad he’s my teammate because I think that will help me get up to speed and remove a lot of the variables to get going again. To have Cameron and Mike Miller’s team is really helpful.”

How do you feel to be returning to Trans Am in the TA2 class?
“What’s so cool about the TA2 class is that the cars really do look like what they are supposed to be on the street. I’ve just seen the Dodge Challenger SRT body for the first time and it’s beautiful. I’m glad we’re going with a retro paint scheme. They captured the essence of the original car so well and it still really holds up well.”

How do you feel about continuing your relationship with SRT Motorsports?
“In driving the Viper GTS-R it was nice to be part of such a small and energetic group and I thought there was a lot of cool stuff happening with Chrysler Group in general. You have this group of people who felt like underdogs and that alone is powerful, but when it’s a bunch of smart, creative people, it’s that much better. I was excited to be a part of that. Fast forward a few years to now and SRT Motorsports is definitely on a roll. The Viper GTS-R program has gone back to the historic red and white livery and they’re starting to get some wins in IMSA TUDOR Championship and at the same time, the new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is coming out for the street. It’s cool to be a part of something that has some energy behind it.”

Mike Miller, Team Owner, Miller Racing
Why did you make the change to Dodge Challengers in the middle of the season?
“It is something that we’ve talked about all season and if things had been ready, we would have liked to switch sooner but it did not end up that way. We talked to SRT Motorsports at the beginning of the season and had them come out before the season started. From there, we have just been working to get everything ready and this is the time frame that it all came together. We hope the successes of Miller Racing and SRT Motorsports will combine to make us an even stronger competitor in Trans Am.”

What will be the biggest challenge with the change?
“We will keep the same chassis, but the different body and aero will be a bit of a challenge. The new car might affect the handling a little with downforce and the engine will be very different. We’re going to have to learn how to make the whole package work together and adapt to the small nuances between the old vehicle and the Dodge.”

Cameron Lawrence, driver, No. 1 Dodge Challenger SRT, Miller Racing
What are your thoughts on moving to a Dodge Challenger SRT?
“It will be interesting, but I think it will be a good project for us and will be fun to develop the car and the motor and get things going and bring the Dodge name into the series.”

How has your season been to date?
“It’s been a really good season as I’ve been off to a really strong start in the first half. It’s definitely getting harder with a lot more cars coming out and some really good competition and good drivers that are all realizing what a good class the TA2 is. We’ve been successful and it’s been really fun, but it’s taken a lot of hard work to stay where we are and continue to get better, even though we had such a good year last year and won the championship. It hasn’t been easy.”

Are you excited to return to Mid-Ohio where you won in 2013?
“I’m really excited. It’s a really cool track. There are tons of people that come out. I’ve only been there twice, but just the flow of it suits my driving style with the corners and the hard braking zones. Especially with all the cars we have coming out to that race, it’s going to make for some close racing and it’s a really technical track, so it’ll show where the good drivers are and not just the good cars.”

How does it feel to partner with Tommy Kendall?
“It’s awesome. He’s always been someone that everyone knows and he’s famous in Trans Am and he’s someone that you look up to. When I won my championship last year in the No. 11 car, I remember him commenting on my Facebook post. He congratulated me and said, ‘Nice to see No. 11 back on top!’ I took a screenshot and sent it to my dad saying how cool it was, and now being teammates with him is almost like a dream come true.”

Ram Launches 2015 Heavy Duty Models with a Trifecta of Claims: Best-in-class Power, Towing Capacity and Payload Capacity

2015 RAM 2500/3500 Heavy Duty Pickups

August 25, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Ram takes heavy-duty towing and hauling seriously. With this week’s start of 2015 model year Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty production, the truck world’s “King of the Hill” further adds to its most-capable claims.

Ram 3500 models will offer increased torque ratings of 865 lb.-ft. and an increased payload of 7,390 pounds, while maintaining a class leading maximum tow rating of 30,000 pounds.

Ram is the only automaker to back its heavy-duty towing claims using SAE J2807 testing criteria.

“Ram maintains leadership throughout its pickup line by offering best-in-class fuel efficiency with our Ram 1500 EcoDiesel at 28 MPG, best-in-class towing at 30,000 pounds, best-in-class power at 865 lb.-ft. and best-in-class payload at 7,390 pounds with our Ram 3500,” said Bob Hegbloom, Head of Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Ram owns best-in-class attributes in the areas that are most important to truck customers.”

Working closely with Cummins, a more aggressive fuel delivery and turbo boost calibration to the 6.7-liter I-6 produces an additional 15 lb.-ft. of torque. This improvement places the coveted engine ahead of the competition with 865 lb.-ft. of torque, while maintaining performance and EPA compliance. The Ram 3500 continues towing leadership at 30,000 pounds and adds a new notch in its belt with a chart-topping payload of 7,390 pounds. The payload claim was made possible by challenging the Ram 3500 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 pickup with an increase in GVWR of 100 pounds, now 13,800 pounds GVWR.

“Ram has driven innovation in the heavy duty segments and intelligently engineered a better truck than our competitors, including a 30,000 pound towing monster,” said Mike Cairns, Director— Ram Truck Engineering, Chrysler Group LLC. “Our 2015 Ram Heavy Duty Trucks own all three relevant titles in the segment: towing, payload and power, while delivering an impressive level of comfort and features unavailable elsewhere in the market.”
Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup trucks are assembled at Chrysler Group’s Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Coahuila, Mexico.

2015 RAM 3500 Heavy Duty Best in Class

POWERTRAIN
With Chrysler Group’s  6.4-liter HEMI V-8, the Ram Heavy Duty delivers to best-in-class horsepower and best-in-class torque among pickups with gasoline engines. Compelling numbers tell the story of the 16-valve engine with 410 horsepower (306 kW) at 5,600 rpm and a peak torque rating of 429 lb.-ft.(582 N•m), at 4,000 rpm.

Other engine options include the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, standard equipment for the Ram 2500 and 3500 (SRW). The engine produces 383 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and generates peak torque of 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 is mated to a 66RFE six-speed automatic transmission.

The renowned 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 is available in three versions. The first version is paired with Ram’s segment exclusive six-speed manual transmission. This combination delivers 350 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 660 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,400 rpm. The second option matches the Cummins to the 68RFE six-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine cranks out 370 horsepower at 2,800 rpm with 800 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm.

Dominating torque charts, the 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel I-6 for Ram 3500 is paired with the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission (AS69RC), leaving no doubt to Ram Heavy Duty’s capability. In addition to 385 horsepower at 2,800 rpm, the most powerful Cummins generates best-in-class torque of 865 lb.-ft. at 1,700 rpm.

FRAME
Ram Heavy Duty trucks feature frames built with high-strength 50,000 psi steel, including eight separate cross-members, hydroformed main rails and fully boxed rear rails for optimal strength and mass efficiency. Chassis controls on the Ram Heavy Duty ensure reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) measurements and improve ride and handling characteristics. Standard electronic stability control (ESC) on single and dual-rear-wheel equipped trucks, and body-to-frame hydro-mounts provide improved ride quality.

Center frame rail sections are roll-formed, an efficient means for maintaining consistent strength in less complex longitudinal sections. In the rear portion of the frame, the structure includes fully boxed rear rails and a factory-installed rear axle cross-member with provisions for fifth wheel and gooseneck hitches.

SUSPENSION
Heavy Duty trucks generally have suspension equipped for constant, heavy payloads. This leads to a harsher ride when unloaded. Ram innovation leads again. The Ram 2500 takes lessons learned from the Ram 1500 with a segment exclusive five-link coil rear suspension system. Loaded or unloaded, the 5-link coil system provides best-in-class ride and handling. The five-link coil design incorporates support at all major points of force. Leaf spring suspensions struggle to combat axle wrap by using staggered shock absorbers (one mounted on the front of the axle tube and one mounted on the rear of the axle tube). The superior design of the five-link coil system functionally resists unwanted axle rotation. Leaf spring configurations also lack lateral support, forcing the leaf ends and shackles to hold against lateral loads — a task they’re not particularly good at and one reason competitive leaf-sprung rear suspensions shutter on rough surfaces. Additionally, the Ram 2500 offers a rear air suspension system for automatic load leveling and greater versatility.

The Ram 3500 continues to feature the rear Hotchkiss leaf spring system, but offers a supplemental air suspension system (late availability). By adding supplemental air bags to the rear suspension, Ram engineers were able to soften the leaf springs, allowing for more unladed suspension movement— even with a best-in-class 30,000-lb. trailer.

In the front, the Ram Heavy Duty line features an advanced three-link front suspension to ensure roll stiffness. Greater roll stiffness, also known as body roll, is an important characteristic in taller vehicles and especially trucks with heavy payloads. Roll stiffness is measured by the amount the truck’s body tips side-to-side, independently of the wheels, during cornering.

BODY
The Ram Heavy Duty comes equipped with robust engine, transmission and body mounts, including pioneering hydro-mounts at C-pillar positions for class-leading noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics despite the truck’s aptitude for higher payloads and towing.

The Ram Heavy Duty trucks feature a factory-installed seven-pin trailer tow connector in the truck bed, included with the optional fifth wheel or gooseneck tow prep package. Ram is unmatched in terms of offering the most complete “hitch ‘n go” towing prep package found anywhere in the heavy-duty category. Additionally, Ram features a standard Class 5 receiver hitch with four- and seven-pin connectors on the bumper. A tailgate handle-mounted, rear high-definition camera backup system is available with dynamic imaging in the 8.4-inch display. Also, the cargo-view camera located in the center high-mounted stop light (CHMSL) provides a view of the bed for easier connection to fifth wheel or gooseneck trailers as well as monitoring bed loads.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Ram Heavy Duty customers can enjoy the convenience of an exclusive cargo camera, power folding mirrors and a combination, power rear-sliding window with defrost. Also, central locking includes the RamBox cargo management system and tailgate power locks, creating a convenient solution for locking all exterior doors and storage with one push of a button. Auto rain-sensing wipers and SmartBeam headlamps also are available, adding to a truckload of content offered in Ram Heavy Duty.
