This victory finally put Herrin (who was the second place contender for most of the season next to other Magneti Marelli sponsored rider Josh Hayes) on top for the overall series.

Herrin commented on his victory after the race on Saturday: “With four races to go in the season, it’s a huge motivation to get a win finally without anybody being out of the race. Going into the race tomorrow I’m going to be real hungry and full of confidence.”

Herrin also came in 3rd in Race 2 on Sunday. He qualified 3rd on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday. Overall, Herrin had an amazing racing performance the entire weekend and left Utah in 1st place for the series.

SRT Motorsports – SRT Viper GTS-R Wins GT Class at Road America – Post-Race Quotes

0
0

SRT Viper RacecarAugust 11, 2013 , ELKHART LAKE, Wis. - Marc Goossens – No. 91 SRT Viper GTS-R (GT Class Race Winner)
“I’d like to say a very big thank you to Ralph Gilles, Beth Paretta, Gary Johnson, Matt Bejnarowicz and of course Bill Riley for building such a great car. It’s not only the history of being the first factory-backed victory for Viper since 2000, but we’re only one year old with this program. This is the first track that we’ve gone to for the second time. What else can we hope for? We had a pole position with the No. 93. They were a little unfortunate in the race, but we brought the 91 back in first place – the first victory since the comeback of the Viper GTS-R. I can’t say enough about Dominik (Farnbacher) for a great stint at the beginning of the race. Great work from the team because on that first pit stop, we had to fix the car because of some damage to the rear. The first pit stop took a little longer but after that, it was going flat out. We’re so happy that we are on the top step of the podium.

“It’s the first time that we’ve run so well up front. Obviously, we gambled a little bit on fuel. Talking to the competition, it seemed that they were a little bit more concerned making it to the end (of the race). It’s no secret that the last caution helped. We were very low (on fuel) to say the least. But you know what we made it to the end. Strategy worked out. All stints were driven perfectly and the guys did a great job on pit lane. Like Dominik (Farnbacher) said, Michelin gives us a great product. The Viper is great. Everything else is gathering data and how we can learn from this one.”

Dominik Farnbacher – No. 91 SRT Viper GTS-R (GT Class Race Winner)
“It’s unbelievable, the first win for the Viper in quite a while. It was a nail biter. I think we made it to the finish line with the last drop of fuel. If you look at all those faces (SRT team), they’re almost crying, everybody’s crying. It’s so emotional for us. I’m just speechless at the moment.

“It was a difficult start. You could hardly see anything because it rained before the race. The start was quite tricky. I tried to stay away from the people around me but at the end, you just ended in a big mess. I got bumped in the front, rear, side and cars were spinning. It was pretty hectic at the beginning. It calmed at a point and we could drive quickly. The (SRT) Viper was just fantastic in the rain. It was the best car that I have driven in the rain. On the first caution, we went to slicks (tires) and were one of the few teams to try that. It was really good. The Michelin tires worked really well in the rain. They gave me good feedback and confidence. I was very happy.”

HOW WAS THE VIPER TO DRIVE EARLY IN THE RACE DESPITE HAVING REAR-END DAMAGE? “I didn’t even know that I had damage. I felt that I had contact everywhere. I looked in my rearview monitor and the camera was upside down, pointing in the sky. I was like, ‘Why is that?’ So I came in and Bill (Riley) said that we had to repair the rear bumper. It took a while and
I think we were last when we came out of the pits for the first full-course caution. I told Bill that I think we should go to slicks because it looked like the track was drying out pretty quickly. So we changed to the slicks and it was the right decision. I think we drove by the field pretty fast.”

Jonathan Bomarito – No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra SRT Viper GTS-R (Sixth-Place – GT Class)
“What a day for SRT and Viper. This is huge. To win in GT Class with this kind of competition is just amazing. What a show today. This entire SRT team has worked so hard to get these Vipers to victory lane. The cars ran amazing. The No. 93 Viper was on an amazing alternate strategy. If the race would have stayed green at the end, we would have had a shot at the win. The race strategy was fantastic. We had a good feeling that one of the SRT Vipers would win today and it was the No. 91.”

Kuno Wittmer – No. 93 Pennzoil Ultra Viper GTS-R (Sixth-Place – GT Class)
“This is what is comes down to – winning races. We’ve put so much effort into this win that it’s very rewarding. The entire team has worked so hard that when you get to the top of the podium, it’s an amazing feeling. We got the win. The Viper was amazing all day. When I saw the full-course yellow (flag) at the end and Marc (Goossens) in P1, it didn’t really matter where I was. A SRT Viper was going to win the GT Class. I had tears in my eyes.

“We win as a team and lose as a team. The bottom line is that the SRT Viper was atop of the podium today.”

Beth Paretta — Director of Marketing and Operations, SRT Brand and Motorsports
“The last five minutes were a nail biter. We had different strategies for the two cars and it was going to come down if we had a yellow or not. We got the yellow, so that determined the outcome with the 91 getting the win. I’m so happy for SRT Motorsports and the SRT brand. It’s been one year; this is our birthday, so happy birthday to SRT Motorsports. This is a great way to celebrate.

“At the beginning of the season, we thought one car might be stronger than the other but now, week-to-week, it could be either one that is stronger. SRT Motorsports is one team with two cars. It’s not two teams. And we have four great drivers.

“The early incident with the 91 just knocks you off your game a little. You just have to regroup and make a pit stop earlier than you might have planned but everything worked out, the strategy was perfect. I’m really happy for SRT and the brand.

“This is a great statement. Seeing our car in the lead is better than any commercial or any ad that you can see in a magazine. It shows that our car is durable, can battle with anything on this grid and some days like today, you’re at the top of the podium.

“Bill (Riley) is very calming. He could be an air traffic controller. He’s very good about keeping us up to date on what’s going on and if there is a change of plans. Everything just worked great. It was a team effort.”

Gary Johnson – SRT Motorsports Racing Manager
“The No. 93 and one other car were the only cars that could make it to the end if the race stayed green and the 93 was in front of that other car. If there was a yellow, then the 91 was in control. We had it covered both ways. It was a great, great race but certainly a nail biter at the end. The credit goes to the team and drivers; they did a fantastic job today.

“We had the issue early with the 91 getting hit and had to come in early to make the repair. We had to make sure the rear end didn’t fall off the car but the crew made the repair and it wasn’t an issue. It wasn’t an issue with the performance. We just needed to make sure everything stayed together.

“With the opposite pit strategy for each car, we felt we had it covered either way. Today, the strategy worked to perfection.”

Bill Riley – Vice President and Chief Engineer, Riley Technologies
“We were going to bring the No. 91 to pit road for fuel on the lap the caution came out there at the end of the race. So it couldn’t be better for us right now. We had a plan, a strategy. We split the strategy for the two cars. If the caution did not come out, the No. 91 and the other cars up front would have to come to pit road for fuel as they couldn’t make it to the end under green. If that happened, the 93 was in position to win with enough fuel without making a stop. The only other car that could have made it under green was behind the 93.

“The speed was there with both cars. The 93 was on the pole. Both cars led laps. The SRT Motorsports team did a great job on pit road and our drivers were superb in the cars. It was a great job by everyone involved – great strategy and execution.”

Matt Bejnarowicz – Lead Engineer, SRT Motorsports
“I couldn’t be prouder of the team and I couldn’t be prouder of the drivers. It was a big nail biter. We spilt strategies because we couldn’t make it on fuel in the 91 if it went green so the 93 was playing it conservative and making sure we could make it to the end in case the rest of the cars in front of us pulled in for a splash of fuel. We really tried to keep both ends of the strategy covered and it worked out.

“On the 91, they weren’t sure they were going to make it on the caution laps. They were on fumes on the caution lap before they hit the checkered. Everyone was kind of biting their nails. We were that close on fuel. They were probably getting ready to pit the next lap for a splash if that yellow didn’t come out and a lot of competitors would have had to pit. The 93 could have stayed out but the 91 would have had to come in for sure without the yellow.

“It’s a year and a half of hard work by team members and it’s probably two-and-a-half to three years of planning. We’ve been away from factory racing at the top level since the year 2000 so it’s 13 years overdue.”

2013 Fiat 500 CattivaAugust 13, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  In Italian, “Cattiva” can describe a person or situation that is naughty yet cool. With that inspiration in mind, FIAT designers developed a standout, factory-customized Cinquecento with a “blacked out” look and an aggressive demeanor: the Fiat 500 Cattiva.

“The FIAT brand is all about personalization and self-expression,” said Jason Stoicevich, Head of FIAT Brand for North America, Chrysler Group LLC. “Now, Fiat 500 customers have a chance to showcase a different side of their personalities with the special-edition 500 Cattiva exuding a devilish designed-for-the-street look.”

New Fiat 500 Cattiva provides the 500 Sport and 500 Turbo models with a factory-tuned look
Inspired by the FIAT Design concept that debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, the limited-production Fiat 500 Cattiva adds more excitement and tuned style to the 2013 Fiat 500 Sport and more powerful Fiat 500 Turbo models.

FT013_248FH__midThe aggressive styling approach starts with blacked-out headlamp, taillamp and parking lamp bezels and unique 16-inch Hyper Nero painted aluminum wheels with all-season performance tires. A uniquely painted Gloss Nero roof and performance spoiler enhance the silhouette of the athletically designed Fiat 500 Sport, or the performance-styled 500 Turbo with a bi-color look. Exterior paint colors for the 2013 Fiat 500 Cattiva include Rosso (red), Rame (copper), Nero Puro (straight black), Argento (silver), Granito Lucente (granite crystal), Bianco (white) and Luce Blue (light blue, 500 Sport only).

Inside, the Fiat 500 Cattiva features a Nero interior environment paired with Nero/Grigio (black/gray) cloth sport seats with Argento (silver) accent stitching. For a premium look and feel, Nero leather-trimmed seats are also available. Finishing the interior is a Matte Nero instrument panel for an understated look, while a Nero leather-wrapped shift knob and sport steering wheel are hand-stitched with Argento accent thread for added for detail.

FT013_244FH__midThe 2013 Fiat 500 Cattiva based on the 500 Sport includes the innovative 1.4-liter MultiAir® engine and fun-to-drive C514 five-speed manual transmission that deliver an EPA estimated 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. Like all FIAT products, engaging dynamics are essential, and the 500 Cattiva includes a driver selectable “Sport” mode on the instrument panel to unleash a more aggressive throttle map. Additionally, this naturally aspirated 500 Cattiva offers an optional six-speed automatic transmission with driver-selectable gear changes. With the six-speed automatic transmission, the driver can also select “Sport” mode on the instrument panel for a more aggressive shift schedule and a throttle map that improves engine responsiveness.

FT013_246FH__midFor the driving enthusiast, the Fiat 500 Cattiva based on the 500 Turbo includes the MultiAir Turbo engine and sport-tuned exhaust to deliver 34 percent more power (135 vs. 101 horsepower) and 53 percent more torque (150 vs. 98 lb.-ft.) compared to the naturally aspirated model. Also upgraded in the powertrain is the track-proven C510 five-speed manual transmission that includes an intermediate shaft with equal-length half shafts to mitigate torque steer. Additionally, brake performance is improved with semi-metallic brake linings at all four corners and larger 11.1-inch ventilated front rotors (up from 10.1-inch).

The 2013 Fiat 500 Cattiva will debut at Concorso Italiano, which takes place August 16 at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey, California, and is scheduled to arrive at FIAT studios nationwide in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing for the Fiat 500 Cattiva based on the 500 Sport model starts at $18,350, plus $800 destination charge. Pricing for the more powerful Fiat 500 Turbo based model starts at $20,350, plus $800 destination charge.

First Viper Victory at ALMS!

The Viper has achieved their first win since the Viper returned to ALMS racing mid last year! This is an outstanding achievement for the team and excellent exposure for the sponsors including Magneti Marelli!

The team started 19th in Wisconsin’s Road America race but was able to climb all the way to first. Driving Viper GTS-R car No. 91, Dominick Farnbacher started the race and then handed over to driver Goossens who beat Corvette driver Antonio Garcia on the inside entering Turn 5 with 34 minutes remaining, and led the rest of the way to score his first career ALMS victory!

The other Viper No. 93 also did well: Winning the GT Class pole during qualification. This was the second consecutive pole for this team and third for the Viper teams in 2013. In the actual race, this team finished 6th.
The racing community is definitely taking notice of the Viper as a very serious contender now and the media exposure grows exponentially after this win which is great news being one of the sponsors.

Magneti Marelli co-sponsored Indy Car driver, Simon Pagenaud also made a guest appearance at the ALMS race at Road America. Simon was filling in for injured Ryan Briscoe. Simon started in 6th position but finished 1st in the P2 class of the ALMS!

It was a great race in Brainerd, MN for Matt Hagan. Hagan, who also won in Seattle and has achieved now already four victories in 2013, powered to a run of 4.044 seconds at 315.34 mph in his 8,000-horsepower Magneti Marelli / Mopar Charger to lead the Funny Car category after the first day of qualifying. “This whole year has been phenomenal,” Hagan said. And he couldn’t have said it any better. Hagan qualified first and had a great run in the first rounds of the finals but unfortunately was beat in the final round by his Don Schumacher racing teammate Ron Capps and that by just .001 seconds! Wow!

With only one race left before the “Countdown to the Championship” begins, Hagan has secured his spot in the “6-race playoffs” which starts in September. Not every driver qualifies for this final round of the NHRA season when the top drivers compete for the Championship. In overall points, Matt still sits at 1st place with a strong lead to the 2nd place driver. Matt was the Funny Car World Champion in 2011 and our fingers are crossed that he will repeat history in 2013 with his Magneti Marelli Funny Car!

Hagan also has gotten a new racing helmet just in time for the Countdown to the Championship which will further increase Magneti Marelli exposure!

2014 Dodge DurangoSeptember 1, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Dodge brand is tearing into its centennial year with a keen eye focused on the future and a desire to create vehicles customers can’t wait to drive and are proud to park in their driveways to show their friends and neighbors.

With 100 years of history to build on, as well as the innovative spirit of the brothers who created the brand, Dodge is taking the best of its innumerable successes over the years – the technological advancements of the ‘30s and ‘40s, design evolution of the ‘50s, the racing heritage of the ‘60s, the horsepower of the ‘70s, the efficiency of the ‘80s and unbelievable styling of the ‘90s – as it paves the road to its future.

Passion, attitude, athletic style, performance, technology and value aren’t just words, they’re values the Dodge team uses to develop vehicles that stand out from the sea of sameness on today’s roads and build loyalty to the brand.

“In today’s marketplace, your product must be multi-faceted; quality, performance and technology are the price of entry to get on a buyer’s shopping list. It’s their perception of the brand that will move your product from their shopping list to their driveway. Brand is everything,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge Brand. “At Dodge, we want to bring back America’s passion for driving. If you just look at a Charger, a Challenger, a Dart, Durango or any of our Blacktop packages, all of these cars give customers a perception of what the Dodge brand is about; the style, the attitude and the personality of the brand that you don’t get from other cars on the road.”

From muscle cars to compact cars, minivans, crossovers and full-size SUVs, the Dodge brand’s full lineup of 2014 models give owners the best balance of power, fuel efficiency, style, safety, technology and value. They offer best-in-class horsepower, class-exclusive technology, unmatched capability and a slew of cool features, such as LED headlamps, Dodge signature racetrack tail lamps, dual exhaust, 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment centers and 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) customizable gauge clusters, to name a few.

This fall, customers will be able to drive the new 2014 Dodge Durango off dealer lots, as well as the 2014 Dodge Dart, Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Journey and a 30th Anniversary Grand Caravan. This 2014 Dodge lineup includes five Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety picks and one Top Safety Pick +, five vehicles with best-in-class power, seven vehicles that deliver 25 miles per gallon (mpg) or higher, three vehicles that deliver 31 mpg or higher and three vehicles that offer seating for seven.

Hold on to your seat, Dodge brand’s effort in Global RallyCross takes flight
With a customer demographic 10 years younger than the competition, Dodge is engaging its owners and potential customers where they live and breathe.

For the second year in a row, the Dodge brand’s marketing efforts are taking passion for performance sky high, with the Dodge Dart rally car piloted by four-time Rally America Champion and 17-time X Games Gold Medalist Travis Pastrana, competing in the 2013 Global RallyCross Championship (GRC) Series, and new this year, Bryce Menzies also is on board, driving a second Dart in the GRC series.

Pastrana is a four-time Rally America champion and owner of multiple supercross and motorcross championships. He also owns Nitro Circus, an empire that includes a television show, live tours and a 3D feature film project. Pastrana is one of the most searched athletes in the world (6 million Google searches in 2010) and he has nearly 4.5 million Facebook followers.

In addition to Global RallyCross Championship, Dodge is engaging fans through the innovative Dodge Dart Registry crowd-funding venture, which lets friends and loved ones chip in to fund pieces of an all-new Dart. The brand also is partnering with SyFy and Trion Worlds for “Defiance,” the first-ever convergence of television programming and online gaming, which allows customers to get engaged each week.

The brand’s passionate fan base is huge and growing. Dodge has more than 2.8 million Facebook followers; the Challenger alone has more than 800,000 fans, which is more than many entire brands.

Dodge fans and owners can get involved with the brand by going to http://www.dodge.com and to the Dodge brand’s blog at www.redlinedodge.com.

SRT (Street and Racing Technology) Brand Offers World-class Performance Vehicle Lineup

2013 SRT ViperSeptember 1, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - At Chrysler Group, the SRT (Street and Racing Technology) brand team maintains its successful formula to design, engineer and build benchmark American high-performance vehicles.

The all-new SRT Viper made its long-anticipated return to the high performance sports car market in 2013. The fifth generation of the iconic two-seat, American-built supercar has been deliberately evolved to incorporate superior craftsmanship; a host of new, performance original technologies and ergonomic improvements while respecting its visceral legacy of outright performance.

The SRT Viper is joined in the 2014 SRT vehicle lineup by the Chrysler 300 SRT, Dodge Challenger SRT, Dodge Charger SRT and Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT.

“The SRT brand customer is a passionate, performance-enthusiast and we are committed to providing them with track-proven vehicles that offer a unique blend of value, technology, power and character. Each of our vehicles are designed and engineered by enthusiast for enthusiasts,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO, SRT Brand and Motorsports — Chrysler Group LLC. “Our product lineup shines with five outstanding vehicles that include the latest in technologies, an intriguing array of colors and unique content that stands out from the competition while never losing focus of the SRT brand hallmarks.”

Every SRT vehicle is developed using five specific performance hallmarks, including:

Awe-inspiring powertrains
High horsepower and torque ratings are a prerequisite in the high-performance automotive world. SRT engineers work to extract maximum power and fuel efficiency from each engine regardless of displacement, to meet the demands of today’s performance customer. Proven transmissions reliably put the power to the pavement, while at the same time incorporate the latest fuel-saving technologies.

Outstanding ride, handling and capability
Every SRT vehicle is built to excel on both road courses and road trips as a result of countless miles of real-world testing to ensure masterful handling on complex circuits and city streets alike. Each tire and wheel package is carefully selected to guarantee any SRT vehicle can hold its own on and off the racetrack.

Benchmark braking
SRT vehicles are well known for their world-class braking. SRT uses some of the best performing components so drivers never have to worry about having safe and consistent stopping power quickly at hand.

Aggressive and functional exteriors
Auto enthusiasts can spot an SRT vehicle from far away. So designers and engineers work together, whether in the studio or the wind tunnel, to ensure each performance target objective is met, while maintaining specific brand styling cues and character lines. All the design elements on the exterior are functional. Since SRT vehicles are drag limited, they are designed to be stable at very high speeds with a goal to achieve the least amount of lift as possible, while also being efficient at touring speeds.

Race-inspired and high-performance interiors
The interiors of SRT vehicles are specifically designed with only high-quality materials, leather and fabrics while promoting passenger comfort with an aggressive feel. Confidence-inspiring steering wheels, stylish ambient lighting along with the latest in intelligent performance hardware and sound systems transform the interior of all SRT vehicles into an upscale space at any speed.

SRT history
Formed in 2002 as one of the industry’s leading in-house automotive performance groups, SRT’s original premise, which is still followed today, was to create the Chrysler Group’s boldest, most distinctive vehicles that delivered benchmark performance.

Original team members were recruited from the established Dodge Viper development team that had already been building the ultimate American supercar for more than 10 years, along with Dodge motorsports and the Mopar engineering teams.

The man at the helm when SRT started in 2002, Dan Knott, credits its early success directly to this “team of die-hard performance enthusiasts leading the engineering efforts.”

The 2003 Dodge Viper SRT10 was a natural fit to carry the flag as the first official SRT vehicle with its all-new, 500 horsepower 8.3-liter V-10 engine.

The next vehicle to wear the SRT treatment was the Dodge Neon and its transformation into the SRT4 was groundbreaking. It instantly became the quickest car under $20,000 and made the import tuning crowd take serious notice.

In total, there have been 10 Chrysler Group nameplates designed and engineered specifically to wear the SRT badge, including:

  • Chrysler 300 and 300C SRT
  • Chrysler Crossfire SRT6
  • Dodge SRT4
  • Dodge Ram SRT10
  • Dodge Viper SRT10, Viper SRT10 ACR and Viper SRT10 ACR-X
  • Dodge Magnum SRT8
  • Dodge Charger SRT
  • Dodge Caliber SRT4
  • Dodge Challenger SRT8 and Challenger SRT 392
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

The roots leading up to SRT being established in 2002 can be traced back to the 1989 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where Dodge amazed crowds with the sleek Viper concept car. The vehicle’s simplistic yet muscular shape paired with an extreme performance 8.0-liter V-10 engine instantly thrust the Viper into the spotlight. The public raved and the Viper was quickly approved for production.

With the dawn of the V-10 powered supercar emerged a group of devoted engineers. Team Viper worked to hone the supercar for the street and racing, which would lead to endurance race victories in the late 1990s.

Meanwhile, a separate, dedicated team completed work on the 1993 Plymouth Prowler concept car. When the first Prowler rolled off the assembly line four years later, Chrysler integrated the two specialty groups into a single entity: Special Vehicle Engineering. At last, Chrysler’s elite teams worked together under a single roof to create eye-catching niche vehicles.

In 2002, Chrysler announced the creation of the Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) group. The newly formed group leveraged existing resources to improve Chrysler’s high-performance vehicle focus.

All PVO creations began to wear the SRT badge with the unveiling of the Viper V-10-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10 concept, flanked on the floor at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit by the Dodge SRT-4 concept and Viper SRT-10.

In 2004, Chrysler renamed the PVO development team SRT.

In June 2011, SRT became a separate brand within Chrysler Group LLC and Ralph Gilles was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer – SRT Brand and Motorsports.

Chrysler Group LLC Spends Quality Time Improving 2014 Model Lineup

0

2014 Dodge DurangoSeptember 2, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Chrysler Group’s continues its quality investments to enhance the performance, competiveness and reliability of the 2014 Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Jeep® and Fiat product lineup.

Following last year’s launch of the all-new Dodge Dart compact sedan, the company is targeting another highly competitive segment in 2014 with the all-new Jeep Cherokee compact SUV. At the same time, Chrysler Group also is devoting significant resources to the 2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee even while those award-winning products are still fresh in the marketplace. The 2014 models of the Durango and Grand Cherokee benefit from new and upgraded powertrains, a completely new electrical architecture and interior enhancements that improve the function and appearance of everything the driver sees and touches.

“In today’s competitive market, customers expect and deserve a highly reliable vehicle,” Doug Betts, Senior Vice President – Quality, Chrysler Group LLC, said. “For a brand or vehicle to make a strong impression for overall quality, it’s important that we also deliver well-crafted, exciting vehicles and ensure customer satisfaction after the sale.

“Quality means different things to different customers,” Betts said. “We define and track our progress for six types of quality, so we can design and build vehicles that will appeal to a diverse customer base. All customers want high quality vehicles, but that might not mean the same thing to an urban commuter in a Dodge Dart, a contractor hauling a trailer with a Ram 1500 or an off-road enthusiast exploring new trails in a Jeep® Wrangler.”

The six types of quality that Chrysler Group monitors for improvement follow:

Reliability
Reliability, also described as ordinary quality, is measured according to warranty claims. The establishment of customer satisfaction teams (CST) has been a key factor in reducing the number of warranty claims by approximately 60 percent in the past six years. Each CST is responsible for identifying and correcting problems for a specific vehicle system (brakes, driveline, electronics, etc.). For example, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) team – made up of experts from engineering, manufacturing, supplier quality and service – is tasked with continually reducing warranty claims and improving HVAC system quality on all Chrysler Group vehicles.

Perceived
Also called appearance quality, Chrysler Group established a perceived quality team that measures and evaluates vehicle attributes such as fit-and-finish, ergonomics, the feel of interior materials and even the sound quality of movable parts like doors and storage bins. The goal is for customers to identify new Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Jeep and Fiat vehicles as well-crafted and quality-built vehicles the first time they see or touch a vehicle at a dealership, auto show or a neighbor’s driveway.

Performance
Performance quality measures how well a vehicle performs and functions compared to its competition. To improve a vehicle’s performance quality, engineers start with an all-new vehicle program, collecting and prioritizing customer desires. Then the team benchmarks more than 300 physical characteristics of best-in-class vehicles. Criteria such as acceleration, braking, handling, seat comfort, storage space, fuel economy and visibility are measured so that all-new vehicles are designed to compete with the best.

Dislike
Sometimes customers find certain vehicle features annoying or poorly designed even though the vehicle performs reliably. For instance, a customer may think the cup holders are too low or the cruise control is difficult to set. Chrysler Group uses this customer feedback to reduce “dislike” design issues. Another example is Chrysler Group’s extensive consumer research to make sure the Uconnect radio, navigation and entertainment controls are intuitive and easy to use.

Service
Service quality measures the customer’s experience in the dealership, before and after the sale. Chrysler Group surveys customers after dealership visits to determine how likely they are to recommend the brand and product; if the vehicle was in for service, the company also asks customers about their level of satisfaction and monitors whether an issue was fixed properly on the first visit.

Regulatory
Recalls for safety or environmental compliance issues can take a toll on a manufacturer’s reputation, in addition to customer inconvenience for extra service trips to a dealer. With strict quality control processes, Chrysler Group is committed to identifying potential issues as quickly as possible and providing safe, high-quality vehicles for its customers.

SIMON PAGENAUD WINS GRAND PRIX OF BALTIMORE

Magneti Marelli sponsored driver Simon Pagenaud earned his second IZOD IndyCar Series victory last weekend at the Grand Prix of Baltimore, a special SRT-sponsored race that features both IndyCar IZOD IndyCarand ALMS racing. Simon, starting in the 3rd position, defeated Josef Newgarden in the 75-lap race. It was a rough race with six full-course cautions and almost every car sustaining some damage, but Simon pushed his Magneti Marelli sponsored No. 77 Schmidt Hamilton IndyCar to the max and came out on top. “The car was fantastic,” Pagenaud said. “We got very lucky on the restarts; we didn’t get collected.”

Simon’s first place finish in Baltimore bumped him from 5th to 3rd place for the overall series. A little less than 2 months ago, Simon was sitting in 8th for the series. Simon has made great strides this season in the IndyCar series and has become an increasing threat to competing drivers.

TOUGH RACE DAY FOR ALMS BUT BOTH VIPERS FINISHED

Magneti Marelli was also represented at the Grand Prix of Baltimore by ALMS Team SRT and the No. 91 and 93 Vipers. The No. 91 SRT Viper drivers Dominik Farnbacher and Marc Goossens, returning to the track after their Road America victory, started 16th and came in 5th in the final race for the GT class. The No. 93 SRT Viper drivers Jonathan Bomarito and Kuno Wittmer started 19th and came in 6th in the final race for the GT class. The Vipers performed extremely well considering their success in closing such a large gap between their starting and finishing positions. The start to this year’s Baltimore race was tough because six cars crashed before they even crossed the starting line and unfortunately one Viper also got caught up in it but the punctured radiator got repaired and they could return to the race quickly. This road course race through the streets of Baltimore is extremely tough on the cars because of its uneven pavement and road issues the drivers have to maneuver through which they don’t encounter anywhere else.

Aside from good racing, the Magneti Marelli stamped Vipers received quite a bit of attention last weekend since the Grand Prix of Baltimore is specifically sponsored by SRT.

MATT HAGAN SETS NEW TRACK RECORD IN INDIANAPOLIS!

Our favorite NHRA Funny Car driver gave another outstanding performance last weekend at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. After a 3-hour rain delay last Saturday, Matt set a new Indianapolis track record of 4.001 seconds at 319.22 mph during qualifying rounds when he competed against Napa driver, Ron Capps. This was also Matt’s 4th number 1 qualifier of the season. “It was an incredible run, and it was an awesome deal to be able to do that at Indy,” Hagan said. “It was worth the wait for us. It’s just been a phenomenal year, and it was cool to see the fans so pumped after that. My team does an amazing job, and I’m so glad we could set the track record here.”

Unfortunately Matt was unable to make it past the first round in Monday’s final due to less ideal track conditions than he had raced a few days prior. However, Matt finished the regular season strong and is still the points leader for the start of the Countdown to the Championship Series.

Magneti Marelli Aftermarket ambassador, Charlie Davis, had the opportunity to host customers at the race in Indy last weekend. These customers are valued Mopar Parts and Service Managers who have greatly benefited Magneti Marelli’s Aftermarket All Makes program. The guests and their families were able to tour the pit areas as well as meet Matt Hagan and spend quality time with the Don Schumacher Racing team. Everybody had an amazing time and raved about Matt Hagan’s phenomenal performances this season!

2014 Jeep Cherokee Trail HawkOctober 28, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety today named the all-new 2014 Jeep® Cherokee a 2013 Top Safety Pick.

The ground-breaking SUV was one of two Chrysler Group vehicles to earn the designation during the latest round of IIHS evaluations. In the last 10 months, a total of 14 Chrysler Group vehicles have been so commended.

Top Safety Pick testing simulates a side impact with a large SUV or pickup truck, front moderate overlap impact, roof-crush consistent with a rollover, and a rear collision capable of inducing whiplash. In each of these, the all-new Jeep Cherokee recorded the highest-possible rating of “good.”

“The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee represents the pinnacle of innovation in the mid-size SUV segment,” said Mike Manley, Jeep President and Chief Executive Officer. “In addition to the breakthrough efficiency of its unique 4×4 system and the milestone introduction its 9-speed automatic transmission – a world-first – the Cherokee features a host of technologies that combine to deliver outstanding occupant protection. That kind of robust performance delivers on the promise of the Jeep brand.”

The other Chrysler Group vehicle today named a 2013 Top Safety Pick is the all-new 2014 Fiat 500L, a revolutionary four-door, B-segment hatchback.

The Cherokee and 500L join 12 Chrysler Group vehicles that claimed Top Safety Pick status within the last 10 months. They include, according to IIHS segmentation:

  • The 2013 Fiat 500 minicar
  • 2013 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger large family cars
  • 2013 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans
  • 2013 Dodge Journey, 2014 Durango and 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee mid-size SUVs
  • 2014 Jeep Patriot small SUV

Three additional 2013 vehicles – the Dodge Dart in the IIHS small-car category and the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 sedans among mid-size, moderately priced cars – share not only Top Safety Pick ratings, but the new IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award for superior performance in a small overlap front crash test.

The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee boasts more than 70 available safety and security features, many of which – such as the Cherokee’s 65-percent content-ratio of advanced-technology steel and 10 standard air bags – help protect in the event of collision. Comprising the 10 standard air bags are:

  • Advanced multistage driver and front passenger air bags, which inflate with force appropriate to the severity of the impact; they meet FMVSS 208 advanced air bag requirements for smaller, out-of-position occupants
  • All-row full-length side-curtain air bags, which extend protection to all outboard front- and rear-seat passengers; housed in the headliner above the side windows, each side air bag has its own impact sensor that triggers deployment on the side where an impact occurs
  • Front-seat and rear-seat-mounted side pelvic thorax bags, which provide enhanced protection to the driver and front and rear outboard passenger in certain impacts; each side air bag has its own impact sensor that triggers deployment on the side where an impact occurs
  • Driver’s-side knee air bag deploys with the advanced multistage driver air bag; located below the instrument panel, it’s designed to properly position the occupant during impact and offer additional lower leg protection
  • Front-passenger knee air bag deploys with the advanced multistage front passenger air bag; located below the instrument panel, it‘s designed to properly position the occupant during impact and offer additional lower leg protection

Other key features include:

  • Front and rear crumple zones comprising specially formed structural members that absorb energy in a collision, helping protect the occupant cabin
  • Safety cage body structure to help protect occupants by managing and controlling energy in the event of an impact
  • Side guard door beams, consisting of reinforcement beams inside the doors that increase occupant protection in a side collision
  • Front seat-belt adaptive/active load limiters, which are designed to optimize chest loading in an impact event
  • Reactive head restraints that deploy in the event of a rear collision; designed to reduce injuries by minimizing the gap between the head restraint and the occupant’s head
  • Front seat-belt pretensioners, which remove slack in the seat belt system, thereby reducing the forward movement of the occupant’s head and torso; activated by impact sensors
  • Energy-absorbing steering column, which utilizes two hydroformed coaxial tubes that can move relative to each other, allowing the column to move forward for enhanced energy absorption during a crash; the feature employs a calibrated bending element that deforms during column stroke for optimal energy management

November 5, 2013 , Las Vegas - Chrysler Group LLC headed west with a Mopar-customized contingent of creations along for the ride.

At the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nov. 5-8, 20 vehicles customized with existing Mopar parts and accessories, as well as concept products designed to elicit feedback, took the spotlight in the 15,300 square-foot Mopar display at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Mopar-modified vehicles from Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge, Ram, SRT, and FIAT brands were prominent at the premier aftermarket event.

“The SEMA season is our favorite time of the year,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “Whether you want more power at the race track, more capability in the mud, or versatility cruising beaches, Mopar is the only authentic and quality-tested answer.”

The following are select Mopar-modified 2013 Chrysler Group SEMA display vehicles on exhibit at this year’s SEMA show:

2013 RAM 1500 SEMARam Sun Chaser
When Ram isn’t hard at work, it’s back to the beach with the Ram Sun Chaser show truck.

Vibrance Orange Blast, with two-tone Brilliant Black paint, color this Ram 1500 Quad Cab. A unique concept Mopar roof rack, dubbed the “surf rack,” and two adjustable support rails housed within the tracks of the truck’s bed accommodate a long surfboard. As an added bonus, hooks on the side of the rails can also carry up to four boards. To wash off salt water or seaweed, Ram Sun Chaser’s exclusive RamBox bed-side storage features a concept water tank equipped with a hose and a portable shower head, forming a makeshift shower kit that may be clipped on to the rack for a quick rinse. A bed step enables easy access to gear.

Surfers or paddle boarders can take a seat when taking off gear or waxing their board with the concept “Flip-Up” seat-back tailgate, which converts into a bench by folding back towards the cab of the truck. New concept 17 x 8-inch beadlock wheels with color-keyed rings, concept flares with exposed fasteners and modified black tubular side-step rails fit the sand-dune-ready theme of the vehicle. Orange tow hooks, a satin badge and spray-on bedliner are also added by Mopar.

Inside, Katzkin leather seats feature stitching accented to match the Vibrance Orange Blast paint, as well as the dash, display bezels and door inserts. Sill guards and all-weather mats also accent the interior. Powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI® engine, the Ram hits the sand with a sport performance hood, a 2-inch performance lift kit and a Mopar cat-back exhaust.

Ram Dually CASE Work Truck
Working with a Ram 3500 regular cab powered by a diesel engine, the Ram Dually CASE Work Truck is finished in Case Construction Equipment “Power Tan” paint and showcases the utility of the Ram with a construction-industry theme that also calls out the Ram brand’s ties to CASE CE and the FIAT industrial group.

The truck utilizes pickup box utility rails to securely transport oversize work equipment as well as “surf rack” style hoops to carry additional construction material or equipment. A unique split pullout bedliner slides out and morphs into a workbench and may be used to reach items located in the rear of the bed. The brawn of the Ram Dually is amplified with a Power Wagon hood and Case Construction Equipment graphics on the body.

Additional Mopar accessories utilized in the build include heavy-duty rear splash guards and power running boards. The interior color mirrors the exterior with orange-accent Katzkin seat and door trim. Mopar all-weather mats protect the floor.

Ram ProMaster
Using the ProMaster H2 (High Roof) as a starting point, the Ram ProMaster demonstrates its potential versatility as a mobile garage and a weekend race-support vehicle.

The exterior pledges its allegiance to Team Mopar, with white body paint dressed up with unique Mopar graphics, including the Mopar Performance logo in grey and a Mopar Blue stripe. The ProMaster leads the way to the racetrack, pulling a Fiat 500 race car and trailer with the assistance of a Mopar hitch receiver and trailer-tow wiring harness. Unique wheels transport the ProMaster, matching the paint and design of the race-car wheels. Heavy-duty splash guards at the front and rear protect the ProMaster, and a Mopar Design badge adds flair.

The spacious cargo compartment of the ProMaster carries critical elements needed to assist a racer during weekend battles at the strip or the circle track. PSE toolboxes, bins, spare tires and other vital race equipment fill the cargo area, which is customized with Mopar Blue accents to drive home the Mopar “rolling garage” interior theme. To brighten up the cargo compartment and help locate equipment, cargo-area lighting is utilized, and a rear-cargo liner helps protect the bed from wear and tear. The ProMaster is also upgraded with a power inverter, WiFi and the Electronic Vehicle Tracking System (EVTS).

Up front, the seats receive the Katzkin treatment, with frost leather on the main seat area, surrounded by Katzkin charcoal leather, and the Mopar Blue logo embroidered on the head rests. Mopar Blue stripes, like those on the exterior, accent the inside door sills.

2013 SEMA FIAT 500LFiat 500L Adventurer
The Fiat 500L Adventurer illustrates the versatility of the new five-seater, with modifications that transform the vehicle and equip it with a tough, rugged appearance.

The exterior is enhanced with bright white body paint, two-tone accent wheel flares and rockers painted in Satin Black. Color is added with Vibrance Bright Orange on the roof, which totes Mopar roof rails and a large roof basket. The vehicle sits on 18 x 7.5-inch custom concept wheels embellished with FIAT logo center caps.

A custom 500L graphic augments door panels, with the L painted orange to match the roof. Orange mirror caps, tinted taillights, tinted chrome exhaust tips, molded splash guards, and a chrome FIAT logo ring further enhance the exterior styling.

The interior is upgraded with black perforated suede Katzkin seats and Katzkin pearl leather seatbacks. Matching orange accents are featured inside as well, with orange-painted bezels and orange accents surrounding the speaker grills and steering-wheel badge. The two-tone instrument panel is black with a white leather insert. A Mopar seat back coat hanger, all-weather mats, a pedal kit, door-sill guards and a cargo organizer are included from the Mopar catalog. A performance boost is achieved with a Mopar cold-air intake and Mopar cat-back exhaust.

2014 Sema FIAT 500LFiat 500L Thalassa
If the Fiat 500L Adventurer represents the “turf” in the FIAT presence at SEMA, the “surf” is served up by the Fiat 500L Thalassa, a variation on the Fiat 500 Beach Cruiser that was shown at the 2012 SEMA Show.

Proving that what Mopar develops as a concept one year can become a production part the next, the Fiat 500L Thalassa features new 18 x 8-inch “Beach Cruiser” wheels — a production version of the steel wheel introduced on the Fiat 500 Beach Cruiser last year. The wheels, decorated with chrome ring accents, are painted to match the Vibrance Bright Orange body color and carry FIAT retro-badged center caps.

On top, Mopar roof rails support a long roof basket — perfect for transporting a surfboard to the beach. The roof is covered in bright white, as are the mirror caps. A lowered ride height and smoked lenses and trim provide an aggressive, sleek appearance.

Inside, Mopar installed a unique towel-drying rack to fit in the rear compartment, with a unique water-protecting cargo organizer that houses wetsuits and a water jug for an impromptu street shower. Another original feature is wetsuit material integrated into the seat construction, along with Katzkin charcoal leather bolsters paired with Alcantara leather and dual Katzkin white leather stripes that run down the center of the seats.

Feeding off the Vibrance Bright Orange exterior, Katzkin orange accents further elevate the interior, including a Katzkin tangerine armrest, door panel inserts, dash bezel, and Katzkin tangerine stitching on the border of the front and rear seats, steering wheel and shifter boot. A classic FIAT badge on the steering wheel provides a retro touch. A pedal kit and sill guards complete the interior, with a Mopar cold-air intake and a Mopar cat-back exhaust enabling the beach vehicle to kick up a little more sand.

2014 JEEP CHEROKEE SEMAJeep® Cherokee Trail Carver
Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver is for trail addicts seeking a vehicle with the capabilities to handle the rugged off-road while projecting a unique, customized and luxurious look on the streets.

Going to the next level of customization, the Mopar-modified Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver uses the Trailhawk 4×4 package powered by a 3.2-liter V-6 engine as a starting point. Its exterior is colored in Auburn Pearl paint, with low-gloss black and Granite Crystal with low-gloss clear touches.

Unique Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk hood and roof topographical graphics are bordered in Crush Orange, with matching orange tow hooks. Aggressive tires highlight the off-road flavor of the vehicle and rock rails protect this Jeep Cherokee from trail obstacles. The top of the modified Jeep Cherokee sports a Mopar concept roof basket design, with orange accent side panels wrapped in woven metallic fabric. A front wind deflector that includes the Mopar logo completes the design.

The inside is enhanced with Katzkin Amaretto leather seats, with colored leather on the center, ensuring a premium feel. Leather wrapping on the center console, storage door and armrest, and matching color stitching on the seats, offer even more appointments. The top and bottom of the steering wheel are leather, and painted trim provides highlights throughout the inside.

Other Mopar goodies include bright door-sill guards with the Jeep Cherokee logo, a wireless smartphone charger and WiFi. The Jeep Cargo Management Receiver System (JCMRS), a unique option that features a running bar along the left interior to which Mopar items may be mounted, is also utilized. The Mopar roadside emergency kit, Trailhawk bag and first-aid kit are mounted to the JCMRS. In the Jeep Performance Parts department, a Mopar cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust are put to work to achieve horsepower gains.

Jeep Wrangler Copper Crawler
The Jeep Wrangler — the most capable vehicle in the world — becomes even more versatile when combined with a healthy selection of Mopar parts and accessories. The Jeep Wrangler Copper Crawler, based off the two-door 2014 Jeep Wrangler, is geared up and ready to attack the trail on the outside, the inside and underhood.

The exterior is armed with a Mopar front bumper and rear bumper, lightweight Mopar rock rails, and lightweight 17-inch wheels with forged beadlocks and beauty rings. The copper color is contrasted with a Mopar black grille, Mopar Rubicon front and rear bumpers with aero end caps, black hood decal, black two-door hardtop, black tail lamp guard, and black fuel-filler door with a locking gas cap. Other Mopar items include a trailer hitch receiver with tow wiring kit, 9.5ti winch and synthetic winch line and Mopar rock rails including Rub Rail. The 17 x 8-inch forged, lightweight beadlock-capable wheels, with color-keyed copper rings, ride on mud terrain T/A KM35? tires and tire carrier.

The interior receives premium customization with Tuscany Katzkin leather seats, and all-weather slush mats, grab handles and black door-sill guards further enhance the inside. To be successful in off-road battle, the Jeep Wrangler Copper Crawler is modified with a 2-inch lift kit, Mopar 4:1 rock-trac transfer case and a Mopar cold-air intake.
