November 15, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Chrysler 300 is the flagship of “Imported From Detroit” style. And for the Spring of 2014, the Chrysler 300S has been updated with even more “blacked out” design elements, a new Ambassador Blue sport interior to complement its world-class ride and handling, exclusive Beats by Dr. Dre audio system and state-of-the-art technology features – all to offer customers a combination of quality, distinct style and craftsmanship that could only be born in the Motor City.

“Chrysler brand’s S-models continue to be among the most sought after lineup of vehicles with their modern and athletic style – and for 2014, the new Chrysler 300S redefines ‘S’ for ‘Stance,’ with an even more imposing presence,” said Al Gardner, President and CEO — Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Adding to its legacy, including being crowned ‘Best Chrysler in Decades’ by a leading automotive consumer group, this new generation 300S is where world-class tailoring meets world-class quality, materials and technology. In addition to its standard, and almost iPad size, touchscreen display, Beats by Dre sound, available AWD, 20-inch black pocket wheels and Piano Black trims, the new Chrysler 300S now comes with exquisitely tailored dark blue leather seats. We call it Ambassador Blue. It’s one more way to suit up our ‘Imported from Detroit’ Stance.”

New 2014 Chrysler 300S
Hinting that this Chrysler flagship was born for those seeking “blacked out” style, the new 2014 Chrysler 300S model features a monochromatic look with specially appointed body-color door handles and fascia inserts. New Gloss Black belt molding, daylight opening surrounds and tail lamp bezels are paired with Gloss Black headlamp bezels for a toughened look. A new Black Chrome grille surround features sculpted horizontal grille blades in the same unique finish, while front and rear Chrysler wing badges in Liquid Chrome with black “Chrysler” center logo exude an industrial appearance. Emphasizing the Chrysler 300S model’s iconic silhouette is the availability of a Gloss Black painted roof. A new 20-inch wheel design (19-inch with AWD) features a sculptural appearance and Hyper Black finish that hints at this flagship’s world-class ride and handling capabilities. For a serious look, new “straight shade” Dark Ceramic Gray clear coat joins the exterior color pallet.

The interior of the new 2014 Chrysler 300S model continues the athletic-luxury theme with 12-way power driver and passenger sport seats, featuring black, or all-new Ambassador Blue Nappa leather with silver accent stitching. For added detail, the center console armrest and door armrests are color matched to the seats and feature French seamed stitching in silver. Exclusive use of Piano Black on interior center stack, instrument panel, steering wheel, gauge cluster and door panel elements provide a uniquely lacquered and highly detailed appearance. This enthusiast-designed interior also features matte carbon hydrographic accents and die-cast steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The award-winning Uconnect 8.4 system with the segment’s largest touchscreen is at the center of the new Chrysler 300S model’s interior. Included in this Chrysler flagship sedan is the segment-exclusive, Beats by Dr. Dre. audio system, with 10-speakers and a 12-channel amplifier that integrates the heart of the Beats proprietary equalizer algorithm. Beats by Dr. Dre founders, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, worked side-by-side with the engineering team at Chrysler to design and tune this Chrysler 300 to deliver the high-definition sound required in professional recording studios.

Power and performance
Unique to the Chrysler 300S model is the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with a cold-air induction system and sport-tuned exhaust system – enabling the aluminum mill to produce 300 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. of torque. For even more driving performance, this 300 model includes the segment-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission with sport mode to fully optimize the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and shifting speed of the transmission. Completing the package are 20-inch all-season performance tires (19-inch with AWD), paired with a touring-tuned suspension with 25 percent quicker steering and 20 percent heavier on-center feel than the entry-level 300 model.

For customers who seek more performance, the Chrysler 300S rear-wheel and all-wheel drive models are available with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine with four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology, 370 horsepower and driver-selectable sport mode. To maximize the power and torque of this legendary power plant, a firmer performance-tuned suspension and larger performance-disc brake system is exclusive on HEMI-powered rear-wheel drive models.

World-class eight-speed automatic transmission
Once limited to premium import vehicles costing twice as much, the segment-exclusive ZF eight-speed automatic transmission expands the world-class power and fuel efficiency of the 2014 Chrysler 300S, and offers class-leading fuel efficiency with respect to:

  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy (31 mpg highway)
  • Best-in-class V-6 all-wheel-drive (AWD) fuel economy (18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway)
  • Best-in-class combined fuel economy (23 mpg with RWD, 21 with AWD)
  • Unsurpassed city fuel economy (19 mpg RWD, 18 mpg AWD)
  • Overall unsurpassed fuel economy in its class (19 mpg city and 31 mpg highway with RWD)

Quicker shifts are possible on the Chrysler 300S as a result of a sport mode. When the driver chooses to let the transmission shift in sport mode, gear changes are quicker and revs are held higher for even more performance-oriented acceleration and higher shift dynamics. For even more control, the driver can also use a pair of die-cast, steering-wheel-mounted paddle controls and view gear selection through a full-color Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) in the instrument cluster.

The segment’s most advanced AWD system
From winding through twisty stretches of coastal road, to escaping away to a snow-covered ski resort, the 2014 Chrysler 300S AWD model has a commanding design presence and the power and all-weather capability to carve through some of the worst precipitation Mother Nature can dish out.

With the aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivering best-in-class city and highway fuel economy (18/27 mpg), or legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with 370 horsepower with four-cylinder mode Fuel Saver Technology, the Chrysler 300 with intelligent AWD features a segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system to improve real-world fuel economy. No other major automotive manufacturer offers the combination of these two independent technologies.

Chrysler 300’s AWD system seamlessly transitions between rear-wheel drive and AWD with no driver intervention. When AWD is not required, the system automatically disconnects the front axle to maximize fuel economy while still providing the outstanding fun-to-drive performance and handling inherent in rear-wheel-drive vehicles.

November 18, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The roots of America’s love affair with Jeep® can be traced to World War II, as the one-of-a-kind vehicle dutifully served the U.S. military with its durability and ruggedness. The affinity for Jeep gained traction as the first civilian Jeep (“CJ”) vehicles – the Willys-Overland CJ-2A – reached the public in 1945. The CJ-2A, and successor CJ-3A, was immortalized for its go-anywhere capability and strictly functional amenities.

Beginning early next year, when the new 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition arrives in Jeep showrooms, customers can connect with the original Jeep vehicle’s rugged and purely functional capability. The latest Wrangler special edition makes its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles International Auto Show.

Based on the Wrangler Sport model, the Willys Wheeler Edition features upgraded hardware, including a Dana 44 rear axle with Trac-Lok® limited-slip rear differential and 3.73 gears, BF Goodrich KM Mud Terrain LT255/75R17 tires, rock rails and a new Jeep Trail Rated Kit that includes a D-Ring, tow strap and gloves in a Jeep-branded bag.  This works with the Jeep Command-Trac 4×4 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio to give the Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition its improved off-road chops.

Special exterior design cues include a gloss black grille with black Jeep badge, gloss black front and rear bumper appliques, historic satin black “4 Wheel Drive” rear tailgate decal and “Willys” hood decals and unique high-gloss black 17-inch aluminum wheels. The Willys Wheeler Edition comes standard with a Sunrider soft top and deep-tint sunscreen rear windows. A premium Sunrider soft top and black-splatter Freedom Top are available.

Willys Wheeler Editions feature the Connectivity Group with SiriusXM satellite radio, and Sport S-based models have the Power Convenience Group and Premium Tire Pressure Monitoring System as standard. Jeep Wrangler’s iconic half doors are an option.

The 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition features the award winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 ft.-lbs. or torque. Dodge Brand and Paramount Pictures Give Fans the Opportunity to Get Their ‘Hands on Ron Burgundy’ Through an Imaginative Interactive Online Competition

November 18, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Legendary news anchorman Ron Burgundy has touched the lives of millions of Americans and now there is a way for his fans to touch him.

The Dodge brand and Paramount Pictures kick off “Hands on Ron Burgundy,” an innovative endurance challenge with a digital spin, as the latest installment of their co-branded marketing collaboration that casts Burgundy as the new face of the new 2014 Dodge Durango and promotes the holiday release of the upcoming film “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” in theaters Dec. 20, 2013.

“Hands on Ron Burgundy,” which runs from Tues., Nov. 19 to Mon., Nov. 25, exclusively on the “Funny Or Die” comedy video website, tests fans’ perseverance using a computer mouse or touchscreen to place their “hands” on a digital image of Ron Burgundy. The contestant who “touches” Burgundy the longest in a single session time wins the grand prize of an all-new 2014 Dodge Durango. Hundreds of additional prizes will be awarded, including three trips for two to New York to attend ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” movie premiere on Dec. 15. Contestants can view a teaser video and enter the contest at www.burgundydodge.com.

“The widespread conversation the Ron Burgundy Dodge Durango campaign is generating has significantly increased awareness of the new Durango and is transforming that conversation into consideration,” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, Chrysler Group LLC. “The ‘Hands on Ron Burgundy’ endurance challenge is Dodge’s latest example of creating innovative and humorous ways for fans to engage with our brand, learn more about our vehicles and turn that interest into shopping for a new Durango. Plus, this contest is really classy, just like Ron himself.”

Since the tie-in campaign with the film launched in October, visits to the www.Dodge.com/Durangowebsite page are up nearly 80 percent and “shopping” activities on the website (find a dealer, build and price) has increased by more than 100 percent.

“This Dodge Durango campaign continues to offer Anchorman fans more ways to engage with the fun of the upcoming film,” commented LeeAnne Stables, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Partnerships for Paramount Pictures. “The total creative collaboration with our friends at Funny Or Die, the Dodge agencies and the studio creative teams, and the filmmakers themselves, is what makes this unique.”

A custom built, one-of-a-kind experience, “Hands on Ron Burgundy” is the Dodge brand’s original take on the “Hands on a Hard Body” contest – first created by a Texas auto dealership in the 1980s and later gaining mass attention from an award-winning documentary film – where contestants compete to win a vehicle by keeping their hand on the vehicle the longest. It was created in partnership with Portland, Ore-advertising agency, Wieden+Kennedy, development partner and design studio, Legwork, and the team at Funny Or Die.

Throughout the competition, Dodge also has mini-games and challenges to draw fans in and keep them engaged, while also learning about features and attributes of the new 2014 Dodge Durango. The goal of the “Horsepower” video game, for example, is for drivers to collect 360 horses (equal to the Durango’s 360 horsepower engine). In the “Catch the Girls” game players need to direct six of Burgundy’s “babes” falling from the sky into the Durango’s sunroof to sit in the passenger seats, filling the Durango’s seven seats.  The other three games – “Dirty Dancers,” “Durango Car Wash” and “Flute Battle” – each have their own humorous way of showcasing the new Durango.

The new 2014 Dodge Durango arrived in dealerships in North America in October. “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” releases nationally in theaters December 20, 2013.

With the ’70s behind him, San Diego’s top-rated newsman Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) returns to the news desk in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” Also, back for more, are Ron’s co-anchor and wife Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man-on-the-street reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) – all of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy … while taking New York and the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm. Produced by Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Directed by Adam McKay.

How It Works
“Hands on Ron Burgundy” launches at noon Eastern Time (ET) on Tues., Nov. 19 and ends at 2:59 a.m. ET Mon., Nov. 25. The fan who can “touch Ron the longest” in a single session will win the grand prize, a 2014 Dodge Durango. A leaderboard will showcase the leading contenders with the longest time. No matter where players are on the leaderboard, hundreds of other prizes will also be awarded throughout the challenge period

Players log in using either their Facebook or Twitter accounts. Once logged in, contestants need to hold their mouse cursor (or finger if using a smartphone) down inside the specified area (hot spot) on Ron Burgundy. As the game progresses, the hot spot changes. There will be periodic breaks where contestants can watch videos and periodic games where contestants can earn bonus points.

Contestants must be 18 years or older and reside in the United States. They can play as many times as they want, however only their top score counts toward contest prizes.

For a complete list of prizes and contest rules, go to http://handsonronburgundy.com/prizes.

The contest is sponsored by Chrysler Group LLC.

The Viper TA uses chassis parts developed specifically by the SRT chassis dynamics team to attain the most out of the race-car-like chassis and create the most confidence inspiring Viper ever. SRT developed new spring rates, dampers, sway bars and brake components, combined as a system with the Viper’s available Advanced Aerodynamics Package, to create one of the most track-capable production cars in the world. The changes keep the SRT Viper TA glued to the track, while the brake system is enhanced for improved balance and to resist thermal saturation during track work.
“The new 2014 SRT Viper TA is engineered for the serious performance enthusiast who needs a car that can be driven daily yet has mind-boggling limits on a road course that would rival many track-only cars. As one of the best handling and fastest supercars available on the market today, the TA enables our customers to take their passion for high performance driving to the next level,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO — SRT Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “The SRT engineering team set out to create a world-class supercar that has few competitors on the track or the road at any price.”

Key high-performance equipment for the 2014 SRT Viper TA Special Edition includes:

  • Unique race-tuned calibration for the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, retuned springs, shocks and road-racing derived sway bars offer firmer levels of damping and a smaller spread between modes than what is found on the Viper GTS
  • Lighter, carbon fiber structural X-brace replaces the standard aluminum brace under the hood and ties the four corners of the engine compartment together, contributing to the 50-percent increase in torsional rigidity and stiffness across the Viper lineup
  • New Brembo two-piece, 32-millimeters wide, high-thermal capacity rotors and pads that optimize heat dissipation providing improved extreme use
  • Advanced Aerodynamics Package includes carbon fiber front splitters and rear spoiler to boost downforce at higher speeds – up to a 700-percent increase at 150 mph

Standard Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires are mounted on ultra-lightweight, multi-spoke Sidewinder II wheels. The brake calipers feature a black anodized finish with the Viper logo shown in TA Orange.

A carbon fiber rear applique accentuates the rear width proportions and adds another level of detail.

Under the hood of the 2014 SRT Viper TA is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter, mid-front V-10 overhead-valve engine. Performance ratings are 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world.

Inside, the performance driver-oriented cabin of the 2014 SRT Viper TA uses the same standard premium ballistic fabric racing seats from Sabelt, featuring a lightweight fiberglass shell created by a state-of-the-art resin transfer molding technology for mass reduction and long-term durability. Both driver and passenger seats can also accommodate a 3- or 6-point harness for racing belts.

The standard black interior combination includes unique orange accent stitching on the cloth seats, instrument panel (through the cowl), center stack, console, pull brake, shifter boot, shifter head, steering wheel and upper doors.

Curb weight is 3,390 pounds.

Production of the 2014 SRT Viper TA is underway at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit.  Vehicles will begin to arrive at dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Why winter tires? There are many reasons

$

Tire StackThis is the time of year when the same discussion is heard in many offices, coffee shops and homes: should I put winter tires on my vehicle?

The answer is a definitive and resounding “Yes,” if you want maximum safety.

Whatever you have on your car, high performance summer tires or all-season tires, you will not get maximum grip on cold mornings unless you are on winter tires.

All tires have a temperature range they like to work in to give you their best performance. Summer tires like it hot, all-season tires like all things moderate and, of course, winter tires like it cold.

No big surprises there. What may surprise some drivers, however, is that all these different types of tires all have somewhat equal grip when the temperature is 7 degrees C or above.

Above that magic number, the summer tire develops grip on a steep curve as temperatures climb; the all-season tire less so.

As temperatures drop below 7 C, however, the winter tire develops more grip, the all-season tire loses grip and the summer tire is just about useless.

As we approach November, when temperatures in the morning will be just above freezing, you can bet that the pavement will be very cold. Winter tires have rubber compounds formulated to stay soft and pliable for better traction in cold weather, something that all-season tries don’t have.

To better understand how traction works, we have to think small. Up really, really close, that smooth pavement underneath your car actually looks a lot like the Canadian Rockies. The pavement is all sharp points, with deep valleys in between; it is a very irregular landscape. A tire’s surface is like that as well, made up of irregular hills and valleys. When the car rolls along and these two surfaces — rubber and road — meet, they must interlace for good grip.

The tire rubber must be flexible enough to wiggle and fit into the microscopic grooves in the pavement. The tire can then achieve maximum contact and use all of its surface to push off as it moves forward. If the tire rubber is not flexible, it cannot get into the microscopic grooves in the pavement. In that case, the contact surface area is just a fraction of what would be possible if the tire was flexible.

Try interlacing your fingers to bring the palms of your hands together. You can see the size of the contact area and how strong it is. That is your winter tire on pavement.

Now try placing your hands fingertip to fingertip. There is little contact area and if one hand pushes on the other, it slips. That is your car on stiff all-season tires on cold pavement. Small surface area equals small friction patch equals small grip.

All of this friction information depends on the pavement area being cold, dry and bare. Now add the lubricating qualities of water or slush or snow and you can see that the grip situation just gets worse.

There are many types of winter tires. Some are designed to be specialists in ice or snow, some are high-speed rated. There are even a few winter tires that can be left on the car year-round.

Current generation winter tires have shed some of the characteristics that annoyed drivers previously. For instance, these tires no longer generate loud buzzing noises at speed on the highway because they no longer have the huge blocks of tread that used to make cars squirm and jiggle whenever the brakes were applied.

If cost is a consideration, remember that your winter tires wear less in cold weather than all-season tires. All-season tires wear considerably faster when driven in winter. A Swiss auto club study showed that total tire costs for a sedan after five years were less when the car switched between winter and summer tires.

December 3, 2013 , Windsor, Ontario - The all-new 2014 Jeep® Cherokee has been crowned the ‘Best New SUV/CUV Under $35,000’ by the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC), bested a quartet of rivals from one of the country’s most popular and hard-fought vehicle segments.

The announcement came today at a Toronto press conference, where AJAC named 12 category winners in its 26th annual Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) awards program.

The recognition of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee as Canada’s ‘Best New SUV/CUV Under $35,000’ comes from 80 automotive journalists from across the country. In October, they gathered in Niagara Falls, Ontario, for ‘TestFest,’ the highly regarded annual event where the journalists drove and voted on 174 new or significantly changed vehicles back-to-back on the same day, under the same conditions, on closed and public roads.

“This award from the members of AJAC is a fantastic, expert endorsement of the capability, technology and refinement built into our all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO, Chrysler Canada. “From the outset, our Jeep engineers wanted the Cherokee to completely redefine what Canadian consumers should expect from a mid-size SUV, whether it be through its cutting-edge design, class-exclusive tech like a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission, legendary Jeep 4×4 capability or more than 70 advanced safety and security features.”

This latest product from the world-famous Jeep brand brings the ‘Cherokee’ nameplate back to North America after a 12-year absence. Manufactured in Toledo, Ohio, the 2014 Cherokee is the first Jeep built upon the Compact U.S. Wide (CUS-wide) platform co-developed with Chrysler Group’s strategic partner Fiat S.p.A..

Other highlight of the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee include:

  • A 2.4-litre Tigershark MultiAir I-4 engine, delivering a more than 45-percent fuel economy improvement versus the outgoing Liberty model and nearly 800 kilometres of driving range.
  • The first use of Chrysler Group’s new 3.2-litre Pentastar V-6 engine
  • Best-in-class capability via three new four-wheel-drive systems
  • A new Jeep Selec-Terrain traction control system with up to five customized modes – Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock
  • Best-in-class V-6 towing capability – 4,500 pounds
  • World-class craftsmanship with an exceptionally quiet cabin
  • A class-exclusive all-new CommandView panoramic sunroof and Sky Slider roof
  • A full-colour 7-inch reconfigurable TFT instrument cluster
  • A Uconnect 8.4-inch colour touchscreen media centre
  • The first Chrysler Group use of Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist System aids the driver in parallel/perpendicular parking

This year’s 12 “Best New” Canadian Car of the Year category winners were decided via over 40,000 points of subjective data from Canada’s best-known auto critics entered on secret ballots, plus copious objective data, from safety features to cargo capacity. The results were tabulated by accounting firm KPMG and kept secret until the winners were announced publicly.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee now competes for the overall title of 2014 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, announced February 13, 2014, during the Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto.

Motor Trend Names Ram 1500 as 2014 Truck of the Year

December 4, 2013 , El Segundo, Calif. - Motor Trend has selected the Ram 1500 as its 2014 Truck of the Year®.

The announcement was made at the Chrysler Group LLC Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, the birthplace of Ram Trucks. A full report on Motor Trend’s comprehensive Truck of the Year testing will be featured on MotorTrend.com and in the February 2014 issue of Motor Trend.

Nine Truck of the Year contenders were put through an extensive battery of testing designed to evaluate virtually every aspect of each vehicle. In addition to the 2014 Ram 1500, the judges examined other all-new or significantly updated trucks the industry produced this year: the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ram Heavy Duty, and Toyota Tundra pickups; and the Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster vans.

To determine which truck deserved top honors, the Motor Trend judges took the nine contenders to the Continental Tire Automotive Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas. There, the judges tested each truck’s performance with the following exercises:

1. Standard testing (without load): 0-60 mph and 1/4-mile acceleration, 60-0 mph braking, and maximum lateral grip.
2. Limit handling (without load): closed-course cornering, braking and acceleration.
3. Tow/payload testing: 0-60 acceleration repeated with trailers attached (pickups) or payload secured (vans), loaded to 75 percent of each truck’s maximum rating (as equipped)
4. Road looping: Highway and real-world replication.

At Continental’s 5,000-acre proving grounds, the team utilized the facility’s 8.5-mile high-speed oval, 15-acre dynamics pad, 1.1-mile dry-handling road course, and multi-surfaced ride road to evaluate each truck’s capabilities and expose strengths and weaknesses. Following the team’s intensive, weeklong evaluation in Uvalde, the trucks were shipped to Motor Trend headquarters in El Segundo, California, to undergo proprietary “Intellichoice Real MPG” fuel-economy testing. Using advanced technology including a weather station, GPS data-logger, and flow-rate and gas analyzers, Real MPG measures exhaust samples every second during an 88-mile drive to record accurate real-world fuel economy.

Once testing was completed, the judges convened to determine which truck would be crowned Truck of the Year. The winner is not chosen from a direct comparison against the other contenders, but rather as a result of how each contender measured up against the award’s six criteria: Design Advancement, Engineering Excellence, Efficiency, Safety, Value and Performance of Intended Function.

With the votes cast, the Ram 1500 clearly emerged as Motor Trend’s 2014 Truck of the Year. The judges were particularly impressed with the performance of the Ram 1500’s all-new EcoDiesel V-6 engine as well as its eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission, a combination that boasts a towing capacity of up to 9,200 pounds. Further, Motor Trend’s Real MPG testing supported what the team learned in Uvalde: None of the gas-powered half-ton trucks in this year’s competition – be they V-6 or V-8, 4×2 or 4×4 – could match the EcoDiesel’s mileage. After delivering observed fuel economy of 15 mpg under extreme testing at Continental’s proving grounds, the EcoDiesel continued to impress during the Real MPG test loop, returning the following frugal stats: 19/26/21 mpg city/highway/combined for the Laramie Longhorn Crew Cab 4×4 with a 3.92 rear axle and an even more notable 18/28/22 for the Lone Star Crew Cab 4×2 with a 3.55 rear axle.

The Ram’s optional air suspension system also scored high marks in Engineering Excellence, as it delivered a compliant ride and commendable handling no matter the terrain. In terms of design, the Ram 1500 impressed with its style, packaging, and interior ergonomics; notably, the Laramie Longhorn’s luxury aesthetics and real wood trim. The breadth of the lineup was another compelling factor. Whether outfitted as a basic workhorse or optioned up to a near-luxury hauler, the Ram 1500 provides all of the capability needed in a truck.

“For 2014 we had a large and highly competitive field of contenders for Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year,” said Edward Loh, Editor-in-Chief of Motor Trend. “At the end of the day, though, the Ram 1500 quickly rose to the top. Not only did it withstand our rigorous testing, it thoroughly impressed our judges with its vast array of standard and optional equipment, and, most notable, its fuel-efficient, segment-exclusive EcoDiesel V-6. With 420 lb-ft of torque and up to 28 ‘Real MPG’ highway, the EcoDiesel is a true game-changer. In fact it helped make Ram 1500 the Motor Trend2014 Truck of the Year – and the only consecutive winner in the history of the award.”

“Half-ton truck customers have been asking for a diesel engine and Ram is the only truck manufacturer to answer the bell and deliver not only best-in-class fuel economy but also 9,200 pounds of towing capability,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “In a brutally competitive truck industry, the Ram 1500 is the only vehicle to ever win the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award two years in a row, reaffirming the fact that we have the best truck on the road.”

Truck of the Year® is one of several coveted honors Motor Trend bestows on automakers, including Best Driver’s Car®, Sport/Utility of the Year®, and Car of the Year®. 2014 SRT Viper

2014 SRT VIPER GTS

The 2014 SRT Viper is as ferociously impressive as any Viper yet, but it’s also friendlier, more refined, and more comfortable.

The Vipers, the SRT Viper and the Viper GTS, are nothing to mock, whether on the street or the track. Their look reflects this, as does the venomous new Viper logo. Low, long, and covered in muscular bulges and threatening vents, the Viper telegraphs its supercar intentions. Inside, the cabin is newly refined and luxurious, with available leather and tech packages pushing it fully into the 21st century.

Under the hood of the Viper you’ll find just one engine, no matter the trim: a 640-horsepower, 600-pound-foot 8.4-liter V-10 beast of an engine driving the rear wheels. It delivers the most torque of any normally aspirated sports car engine in the world, and the performance reflects that: 0-60 mph runs come in the low-three-second range; quarter miles fly by in the low 11s; 0-100-0 mph takes less than 12 seconds; top speed is 206 mph. You can have any transmission you want, as long as it’s the six-speed manual.

The supercar game is not all about straight-line performance, however, and the Viper shines when it’s time to turn, too. The latest Viper generation is the first to be equipped with stability and traction control, and fortunately, they’re not the eviscerating systems of old. In fact, even in fully-engaged mode, the system allows for yaw and slip angles suitable to spirited track-day antics.

In 2013, non-GTS models had just two settings for the traction control system: on and off. For 2014, a third mode has been added to improve traction in the rain. GTS models add a pair of intermediary steps (Sport and Track) which further loosen the restrictions. Even with everything fully off, however, the Viper is nearly balanced; transitioning from entry to apex to exit with massive grip and surprising feel through the steering wheel and the seat-bottom. There’s always the threat of the rear coming around when you come onto the gas too hard, but as a training tool, the mortal fear of 600 pound-feet of torque is unmatched.

Differences between the SRT Viper and Viper GTS are primarily in equipment: the GTS gets a two-mode suspension system with Bilstein DampTronic Select dampers and the aforementioned extra stability control parameters. The SRT Viper is the more minimalist take on extreme performance, while the GTS offers an extra degree of luxury and refinement in the cabin as well as its upgraded suspension system and electronic controls.

The Viper’s cabin is surprisingly roomy for such a low-slung, coupe-only configuration. SRT claims drivers up to 6’7″ should fit within its confines. As a result, there’s plenty of head and leg room for most drivers, and the seats are both comfortable and adjustable. The steering wheel and pedals also move to get the best possible fit. You’ll want as much physical comfort in the Viper as possible, as it’s a very noisy place to be, even cruising at low engine speeds on a smooth country road. The ride quality is fair in base models, a bit better in GTS trim, but never really objectionable for a sports car. Cargo space is fair, at 14.65 cubic feet, but its odd shape means soft-sided bags will be the best bet for longer trips.

Gas mileage, as you might expect, isn’t one of the Viper’s primary concerns. As a result, it gets 12 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined.

Expensive, low-volume sports cars are often skipped in the crash-testing cycle by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS); the 2014 SRT Viper is no exception. Despite the lack of crash tests, the Viper should prove as safe as most modern coupes in an accident, with a full suite of air bags, anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, and pre-tensioning seat belts all standard. A backup camera is available on base models, and standard on GTS models.

2014 SRT viper

With an all-new look that still unequivocally says “Viper,” the 2014 SRT Viper looks as brutal and extreme as it drives.

Swollen fenders mark the boundaries of the swooping, curving, vented shape. A long, low hood and slightly bulbous canopy give the 2014 Viper classic proportions, but the details are all 21st-Century stuff, inspired by racing, just as the car itself is.

Inside, the aesthetics have seen a major upgrade from the previous-generation Viper. New for 2013, the 2014 model sees no real updates to its design, but that’s fine by Viper shoppers: the interior for the newest Viper is quite nice.

In GTS models, Nappa leather and Alcantara inserts give a luxurious look, while metal-finish trim, available carbon fiber accents, and the more modern, but still race-inspired shape of the cabin work together to elevate the Viper from its former just-above-kit-car status into the realms of the attractive, if not quite the beautiful.

Unlike many of the SRT Viper’s rivals, there’s only one powertrain configuration available: a chunky six-speed manual transmission paired to an 8.4-liter V-10 engine rated at 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.

That massive output figure includes the most torque of any production naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world.

And it’s really tremendous power that makes the Viper tick. It’s balanced, surprisingly easy to drive with the (new for last year) electronic aids enabled, though a bit twitchy at the limit. The Viper has massive grip, whether turning, braking, or accelerating. For the suitably fearless driver, there’s plenty to love about the Viper’s complete package.

But its power that sets the Viper apart, that makes its fans smile, its admirers drool, and its rivals flinch. Unleashing the full fury of the big 8.4-liter V-10 is a special experience.

To get the most out of the engine, however, you’ll have to rev it hard–there’s surprisingly little low-end punch to the meaty V-10, the engine’s tune being tilted substantially toward the top-end.

Fortunately, that makes the Viper a touch more tractable around town, where you might not want an instantaneous 600 pound-feet of torque surging through the wheels as you navigate a roundabout.

There are three packages that make a marked impact on performance: the base SRT Viper, the Viper GTS, and the new-for-2014 Viper TA. The base model was our previous pick for hardcore track duty, as it eschews the extra luxuries of the GTS model, as well as the two-mode adjustable suspension for a standard setup that’s very fun to drive, less expensive, and just as quick.

The new Viper TA may change that calculus, however, with a host of new track-optimized features and equipment, including upgraded Brembo brakes, retuned two-mode dampers (with more track-appropriate settings), upgraded springs and anti-roll bars, and a new carbon fiber X-brace in place of the standard aluminum unit.

Comfort has never been a priority for Viper owners. This is a car that chooses to sacrifice some creature comforts in the name of design and performance. But, until the latest generation, there was good argument for a better balance between these countervailing concerns.

2014 SRT viper interior
That’s the case no longer. The cabin of the 2014 SRT Viper is well-designed, well-upholstered, and quite comfortable, considering the Viper’s rather hardcore focus on performance. The new seats look like they’re straight out of a Ferrari (because they’re made by the same company), the new materials are universally upgraded, and the design is modern, if still a bit minimalist. The massive touchscreen interface in the center stack looks and feels as high-tech as it is high-res.

2014 srt viper dash

In GTS models, the luxury factor can be increased significantly, with Nappa leather and carbon fiber accents available. Whichever trim line you choose, however, the Viper’s cabin is, ultimately, a sports car cabin: small, cocoon-like, and low to the ground. There’s a fair bit of road, wind and engine noise, even at lower speeds; it becomes a roar at highway pace.

Storage space around the cabin is limited, though there are several small bins and cubbies. The trunk is almost sedan-sized at 14 cubic feet.

The 2014 SRT Viper hasn’t been crash tested by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which is common for expensive, low-production vehicles.

The Viper’s massive power output and sharp dynamics have helped it to earn a reputation as a difficult car to drive, but the newest model is much friendlier than previous generations thanks to electronic stability control, which gains a “weather” mode for rain or other inclement conditions. Very capable brakes, especially on TA models, help slow or stop the Viper in evasive maneuvers. Driver and passenger multi-stage front airbags are standard, but side and curtain airbags aren’t available.

Rearward visibility can be an issue with the Viper, but fortunately a rearview camera comes standard on all models.

The features list of the Viper used to be a rather short affair: you simply couldn’t get much in the way of interesting equipment, despite the plethora of special editions.

For the 2014 model, the Viper carries forward the innovations launched with the new generation of the Viper in 2013, including the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, available in two flavors. The base Uconnect Media Center system includes Bluetooth phone and streaming audio; SiriusXM Radio; embedded cellular connection; and a rear backup camera display, as well as being navigation-ready. The premium version of the system adds navigation; traffic information; 3D maps; voice destination entry; HD radio; and more. A standard media hub gives all Vipers access to USB, SD cards, and auxiliary input.

A high-speed data connection allows for cloud-based voice recognition, web connectivity through Yelp and other apps, and stolen vehicle tracking services.

A Harman Kardon surround sound system is also available, bringing with it seven channels of audio through 18 speakers, including four subwoofers, all plumbed to its own power supply.

SiriusXM Travel Link, available with the premium Uconnect system, brings live traffic, accident, and other commuter information to the car.

All Vipers get a seven-inch full-color, customizable instrument cluster, allowing different performance metrics or gauges to be displayed at the driver’s preference. The system can also measure and display various performance stats, including 0-60-mph runs, quarter-mile times, braking distance, g-force measurements, and top speed runs.

A range of optional wheel styles, interior materials, and exterior color schemes is available for each trim package, too. Carbon fiber interior and exterior accents and more aggressive aerodynamics are available in a range of packages offered on either model, though the Laguna Interior (with Laguna premium leather) and Anodized Carbon Edition packages can only be ordered on GTS models.

The All-new 2015 Chrysler 200 Sedan Charts a New Course for Mid-size Sedans, Captivating Drivers and Passengers with its Simple Elegance, an Extraordinary Driving Experience and Cool Features – at a Value Customers Will Appreciate

2015 Chrysler 200 Ottawa

January 13, 2014 , Detroit, Mich. – Simple elegance, an exhilarating driving experience, state-of-the-art and easy-to-use technology and beautifully crafted, the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 charts a new course for mid-size sedan customers who have earned a little luxury in their life, but demand value for their money.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 debuts a beautiful exterior design featuring the new “face” of the Chrysler brand – a thoughtful, exquisitely crafted interior and an exceptional driving experience, complements of a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission and an Alfa Romeo-based chassis. With the choice of two world-class engines, an innovative all-wheel-drive system, available sport mode and paddle shifters for an engaged driving experience, and estimated highway fuel economy of 35 miles per gallon (mpg), the all-new Chrysler 200 makes the commute something drivers will look forward to.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 offers the most available safety features in the mid-size sedan segment, and state-of-the-art, easy-to-use technology that keeps drivers and passengers connected. With a starting U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of just $21,700 (excluding $995 destination) the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 is a sedan that customers will be proud to own, at a value they will appreciate.

“The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 will be the new benchmark for mid-size sedans with an exceptional driving experience, fuel economy of up to 35 mpg highway and exquisite craftsmanship,” said Al Gardner, President and CEO — Chrysler Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.  “The all-new Chrysler 200 lays the groundwork for the future of the Chrysler Brand with a timeless, elegant design; clever functionality; a standard nine-speed automatic transmission; a class-leading all-wheel-drive system; more than 60 safety and security features and a host of new technology drivers and passengers will value.”

The 2015 Chrysler 200 is designed, engineered and built with pride in Michigan. With a major investment of more than $1 billion, Chrysler Group’s Sterling Heights (Mich.) Assembly Plant (SHAP), once slated for closure, sports an all-new paint shop using leading-edge technology, a new, fully robotic body shop and an upgraded assembly area, setting the stage for the world-class craftsmanship found in the all-new 200.

Design
Inspired American design and beautifully crafted inside and out, the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 transforms what customers expect in a mid-size sedan. The 2015 200 sedan showcases the new face of Chrysler, and incorporates timeless design cues that let the car tell the story.

Clean, expressive surfaces define the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200; it’s a timeless American design based on simple elegance. The 200 sedan, with its muscular yet soulful presence, embodies a strong, sculptured exterior that drivers will want to touch and feel. The restrained design is not ornamental or full of line work instead it showcases sensual lines and fluid surfaces, which highlight the coupe-like appearance.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 debuts the new “face of Chrysler.” The grille and headlamps are integrated for the first time and the updated Chrysler badge has an emphasis on the wing, which is more defined. The signature light pipe or available full-LED daytime running lamps (DRL), LED fog lamps and standard LED taillamps give the all-new Chrysler 200 a distinctive, recognizable look coming and going.

The Chrysler 200S model delivers an exclusive style – darker, more sinister – not found on other models in the lineup, or in the mid-size sedan segment. The 2015 Chrysler 200S model features gloss black trim and accent pieces rather than the standard bright trim. The exclusive design of the daylight opening (DLO) trim, the area surrounding the side windows, is gloss black – the 2015 Chrysler 200 is the only vehicle in the segment with this feature. Integrated dual exhausts are standard and the available 19-inch Hyper Black aluminum wheels complete the look. The more sinister appearance of the 2015 200S model complements the sportier driving experience the S model delivers.

The interior of the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan provides the “wow” factor. Exquisitely crafted with high-quality materials and attention to detail, the 2015 200 sedan’s interior is inviting and comfortable and rewards drivers and passengers on commutes as well as longer journeys.

Using four key principles – an emotional design impact, use of high-quality materials with honest material execution, state-of-the-art technology and clever storage features – and inspired by classic, thoughtful American design, the interior of the all-new 200 sedan is unequaled in the segment.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan features interior trim and materials that are well-crafted, pleasing to the eye, soft to the touch and comprised of high-quality materials. Attention to detail is paramount and attractive components offer world-class levels of fit and finish.

2015 Chrysler 200 Ottawa

The striking interior color and trim combinations were inspired by celebrated American locations, such as 5th Avenue in New York City, Sausalito, California and Detroit.

A clever design for the center console, made possible by the state-of-the-art full electronic gear shifting with rotary shift knob, is beautiful as well as functional. A unique pass-through storage feature that the driver and front-seat passenger can both access is enabled by the rotary-dial electronic shifting, a segment first. A clever opening at the rear of the pass-through area allows wires and cables from items stored in the pass-through area to route directly to the hidden power supply located in the covered center console. The center console features innovative sliding cup holders with smooth, furniture-like movement, allowing drivers and passengers to use the space in a way that best fits their needs.

The all-new Chrysler 200 is loaded with state-of-the-art, high-tech features and amenities that will surprise and delight customers. The available 7-inch LED full-color instrument cluster allows drivers to receive information and feedback in the format they prefer, similar to an iPhone. A glowing bezel surrounding the instrument cluster gives off a distinctive, pleasing blue glow. The available screens show information such as real-time fuel economy, turn-by-turn navigation, compass, outside temperature, speed, time and other useful information. The display is easy to use and easy-to-read, which allows drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 features the available award-winning Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia command center. It is attractive, intuitive and easy to use. Uconnect Access keeps drivers and passengers connected with helpful information such as fuel prices and movie listings. Voice-activated navigation, handsfree voice commands and voice-to-text are some of the available features that allow drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

Attention to detail is prevalent throughout the all-new Chrysler 200, as no space was overlooked. Surprising details include a rendering of the City of Detroit skyline embossed on the rubber mat in the bottom of the pass-through storage of the center console.

Engineering
Exquisite style meets exceptional performance. The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan leapfrogs expectations in the mid-size sedan segment for comfort, ride and handling. Engineered to provide premium driving dynamics, improved fuel economy estimated at 35 mpg highway, a quiet cabin and an enthusiastic driving experience, the all-new Chrysler 200 delivers exceptional ride and handling characteristics for all roads and weather conditions.

A segment-first standard nine-speed automatic transmission and world-class engines, including the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with a best-in-class 295 horsepower, add up to an enjoyable, spirited driving experience in the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200. An available, innovative, state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive system includes a “sport” driving mode and delivers excellent performance in all driving conditions. With a world-class architecture and leading-edge technology, the new Chrysler 200 is engineered to exceed customer expectations in every category.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 is the world’s first mid-size sedan to feature a nine-speed automatic transmission, which comes standard. The benefits of the advanced-technology transmission are numerous, including an estimated highway fuel economy of 35 mpg when powered by the 2.4-liter MultiAir®2 Tigershark I-4 engine. The addition of more gear ratios reduces the frequency of speed changes associated with upshifting and downshifting – fluctuations that thwart fuel savings and undermine the driving experience. The high-tech transmission dispenses power smoothly for elevated refinement. Such performance is made possible because the ratio steps between its gears are smaller than those of other transmissions.

Two world-class engine choices power the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan. The proven, award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 generates a best-in-class 295 horsepower as well as 262 lb.-ft. of torque.

The new Tigershark 2.4-liter MultiAir2 four-cylinder engine produces 184 horsepower, 173 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers excellent estimated fuel economy of 35 mpg highway. The new standard Tigershark engine, that powers the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200, delivers fuel economy improvements of 13 percent, horsepower improvements of 6 percent and torque improvements of 10 percent compared with the outgoing four-cylinder engine.

A new available sport mode in the 2015 200 provides a spirited driving experience by modulating steering, throttle and shifting inputs, electronic stability control, Adaptive Cruise Control Plus and all-wheel drive for a driving experience customers will look forward to. The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 is the first Chrysler Group mid-size vehicle to offer paddle shifters, enhancing the driving experience for the driver who wants to experience all the car has to offer.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 offers an available best-in-class all-wheel-drive system, which features a segment-first fully disconnecting rear axle that improves fuel economy by operating in front-wheel drive when all-wheel drive is not needed. The all-wheel-drive system features a one-speed power transfer unit (PTU) and uniquely disconnects and reconnects the rear axle – automatically and seamlessly – as needed and at any speed.  The disconnecting rear axle disconnects at both the PTU and rear drive module, which improves fuel economy by reducing parasitic loss when all-wheel drive is not needed.

Owners of the new Chrysler 200 will appreciate an innovative rotary e-shift dial that replaces the traditional console shifter. The rotary e-shift enables intuitive operation with a direct and confident feel. The convenient, center-mounted, easy-to- operate system provides total control of the sophisticated nine-speed transmission. This new design allows easy shifting and also yields space for more functional and usable storage in the center console.
2015 Chrysler 200 Ottawa

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 is the first mid-size sedan to utilize Chrysler Group’s Compact U.S.-wide (CUS-wide) platform, the basis for smooth on-road performance. The new body structure, including laser-brazed roof welds, delivers increased torsional stiffness, resulting in a more connected driving experience.
The 2015 Chrysler 200’s chassis was engineered to deliver sporty European handling dynamics and steering precision with ride and comfort characteristics tuned for North American roads, resulting in excellent handling for the driver with maximum comfort for both the driver and passengers.

The exceptional balance of fun-to-drive dynamics, ride comfort and emergency handling is accomplished through the suspension bushing tuning and the exceptional body structure, including the front aluminum cradle, rear upper/under body structure reinforcement and superior suspension attachment stiffness.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 is the most aerodynamic vehicle in its class, aiding improved fuel economy, on-road dynamics, and reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). The quiet cabin is another positive factor in the superior driving experience.

Safety and Security
The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 is a showcase of advanced safety and security technology, offering a comprehensive array of driver-warning and assist systems and state-of-the-art occupant restraints. The 2015 200 offers the most available safety and security features in the segment with more than 60.
The new 2015 200 features multiple segment-exclusive features, which utilize sensing elements that leverage available ultrasonic, radar, camera and other technologies for a 360-degree view of the road. Segment-exclusive available features include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus: that under certain circumstances and without driver intervention, can bring the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 to full stop
  • Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus: a Chrysler Group first that provides autonomous braking and, under certain circumstances, slows or brings the vehicle to a full stop when a frontal collision appears imminent
  • LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus: introduces steering-wheel input as well as a warning message in the instrument cluster to alert the driver of inadvertent lane departure and assist with corrective action

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 also offers ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist, which uses ultrasonic sensors to guide the driver into parking spaces. The perpendicular park assist function is a segment first.

Also unique to the 2015 Chrysler 200 is the segment-exclusive standard electronic park brake with Safe Hold, which secures the vehicle if the driver opens the door and unlatches the seat belt while forward or reverse gears are still engaged.

Other standard and available features include electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, ParkSense rear backup sensors, ParkView rear backup camera, blind-spot monitoring, Rear Crosspath Detection and LATCH child seat anchors. In addition, the all-new 200 is constructed with approximately 60 percent advanced-technology steel, which contributes to a strong safety cage and robust crashworthiness.

World Class Manufacturing
World Class Manufacturing principles and an improved, upgraded assembly plant set the stage for a world-class vehicle – the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan.

The Sterling Heights (Mich.) Assembly Plant (SHAP), home of the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200, is the beneficiary of a $1 billion investment including an all-new state-of-the art paint shop and a new fully robotic body shop.

The all-new 1,000,000-square-foot body shop features fully robotic assembly for precise fit and finish. More than 1,000 new robots in the new body shop enable precisely crafted features, like laser-brazed roof and trunk deck lid joints and consistent fits on every car.

The all-new paint shop features state-of-the art technologies that offer customers a beautiful palette of exterior colors from which to choose while reducing costs and the environmental impact of the paint operations. The180-degree “rotisserie” rotating carriers ensure the best sealant coverage of all seams in the vehicle. Lasers check that the sealant is applied properly and in the right locations.

Fully robotic paint booths, and the “Round Robot” paint concept where three of the four robots paint a vehicle while the fourth is cleaned and serviced, enable world-class paint coverage for each and every vehicle. Each robot’s applicators are cleaned every two to three hours enabling a consistent level of high-quality paint on every vehicle built.

SHAP utilizes a powder primer paint system for the 2015 Chrysler 200, which saves cost and reduces the impact to the environment by utilizing 97 percent of all powder. This is achieved by recirculation of the powder. The all-new paint shop is a “clean” facility, rivaling clean lab environments with dust and contamination control for a better quality paint. Emu feathers dust the vehicles prior to paint application. De-ionization releases the dust from the feathers after each car is dusted, reducing potential contamination prior to paint.

Attention to detail ensures consistent, high-quality paint for every 2015 Chrysler 200. The fuel-filler door is mounted in the passenger window during the paint process for paint application in the same direction as if it were mounted on the fuel filler opening, resulting in matching paint and color consistency.
New paint technologies enable tri-coat paints for a selection of beautiful exterior finishes.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 competes in the mid-size sedan segment, one of the largest segments in North America, with more than 2 million sales annually. Roughly one of every six new vehicles sold in the United States is a mid-size sedan.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 is available in four different models in the United States and will arrive in volume in dealer showrooms in the second quarter, 2014. Customers can choose from the 2015 Chrysler 200 LX model, Chrysler Limited model, Chrysler 200S model and the premium Chrysler 200C.

The all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan will offer consumers 11 different exterior color choices from which to choose: Velvet Red Pearl Coat, Lunar White Pearl Tri-coat, Phantom Black Pearl Tri-coat (late availability), Vivid Blue Pearl Coat, Crystal Blue Pearl Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat, Luxury Brown Pearl Coat, Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Black Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat and Ceramic Blue Clear Coat (late availability).
