Huge Inventory, Huge Selection!

Huge Inventory, Huge Selection!

According to an Autoblog Article;

180,000 new vehicles are sitting, derailed by lack of transport trains

If you’re planning on buying a new car in the next month or so, you might want to pick from what’s on the lot, because there could be a long wait for new vehicles from the factory. Locomotives continue to be in short supply in North America, and that’s causing major delays for automakers trying to move assembled cars.

According to The Detroit News, there are about 180,000 new vehicles waiting to be transported by rail in North America at the moment. In a normal year, it would be about 69,000. The complications have been industry-wide. ToyotaGeneral MotorsHonda and Ford all reported experiencing some delays, and Chryslerrecently had hundreds of minivans sitting on the Detroit waterfront waiting to be shipped out.

The problem is twofold for automakers. First, the fracking boom in the Bakken oil field in the Plains and Canada is monopolizing many locomotives. Second, the long, harsh winter is still causing major delays in freight train travel. The bad weather forced trains to slow down and carry less weight, which caused a backup of goods to transport. The auto companies resorted to moving some vehicles by truck, which was a less efficient but necessary option.

Now, things are finally starting to improve. The weather is warming, and the freight industry is putting more trains on the rails. According to The Detroit News, shipments will finally get back on track to normal in early July. That will give automakers a few months reprieve before the snow will begin falling again” - http://www.autoblog.com/2014/05/21/180000-new-cars-sitting-waiting-for-trains/

Chrysler launches outside review of safety practices

0

MarchionneWashington —CEO Sergio Marchionne says Chrysler has hired an outside team to review its safety practices, as the U.S. auto industry braces for soaring costs from the rising number of recalled vehicles.

It’s the latest sign that the recall crisis at General Motors Co. has caught the attention of other automakers in a big way: GM faces fines and recall costs approaching nearly $1.8 billion so far. Other automakers have stepped up the pace of their recalls too, because of the increased scrutiny. And its not just costs that automakers are worried about: Their reputation and the trust of their customers are at stake.

Marchionne told reporters in Washington Wednesday that he’s asked consultants “to look at the Chrysler process itself, to find out whether we can improve it — we’re going to benchmark it against other (automakers.) We’re going to try and take a look to see whether we’re doing all the right things.”

“We continue to take this seriously,” he said after an event at the Brookings Institution on the fifth anniversary of the auto bailout.

“It’s not something that’s going to go away in two months.”

Marchionne said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s maximum fine of $35 million imposed on General Motors Co. over its delay of 2.6 million vehicles recalled for ignition switch problems won’t convince automakers to change their ways. Rather, he said, it’s a reputation for safety they’re worried about.

“The fine is not going to be a deterrent. It’s part of the administration of sanctions, but the issue is much bigger than the fine,” he said.

He called the recent massive recalls by the auto industry an “astounding number — just in sheer size. It can’t be that all of a sudden we woke up and we realized we had these issues, so there must be a change in attitude.”

He’s seeing that change at Chrysler: “We’re beginning to see people getting truly, truly cautious.”

GM has taken $1.7 billion in accounting charges to pay the costs of its recall of 15.8 million vehicles worldwide — about 4 million more than its previous yearly record set in 2004.

Fiat Chrysler took a 100 million euro ($140 million) charge against first-quarter earnings related to the company’s recall in late March of nearly 870,000 SUVs. Chrysler will install a shield that protects brake boosters from corrosion on 2011-14 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs.

Last year, Chrysler and NHTSA sparred over fire risks in older SUVs. Chrysler ultimately agreed to recall 1.56 million Jeep SUVs under government pressure. It said the recall would cost $151 million.

Michelle Krebs, an independent auto analyst, said the industry likely will see a spike in recalls as automakers become more diligent in identifying potential safety concerns.

But she downplayed the idea that more recalls will create more cost that will eventually be passed on to buyers. “If you don’t take care of something for years, the cost is far more,” she said. “It’s much cheaper to take care of things early.”

Karl Brauer, an analyst at Kelley Blue Book, said he’s surprised at the current level of recall buzz, especially after Toyota Motor Corp.’s public recall nightmare four years ago. That situation prompted automakers to examine how they addressed potential safety concerns, though Brauer said it was unlikely GM or Chrysler spent a great deal of time or resources because both had just emerged from bankruptcy.

Toyota’s recall of millions of vehicles ended up costing the company more than $3 billion, including fines and lawsuits.

The industry is headed toward breaking the all-time record of 30.8 million vehicles recalled in 2004. Automakers have already recalled nearly 20 million vehicles in the United States this year.

David Cole, chairman emeritus of the Center for Automotive Research, thinks recalls eventually will return to normal levels. “Automakers are going to make sure they have strong and robust processes, but I don’t see a long-term change in the number of vehicles recalled by automakers,” Cole said. “But anything that could be a safety issue is being recalled now.”

Ford executives have repeatedly defended their recall practices. “We always continuously evaluate opportunities to improve our processes, but we are confident in the methods that we have to not only quickly identify issues, but then quickly act on those issues,” Mark Fields, Ford Motor Co.’s incoming chief executive, said in an interview last month.

David Friedman, acting NHTSA administrator, said Friday he doesn’t believe automakers are going too far.

“Quickly addressing and reporting safety defects should always be a car company’s bottom line,” he said. “There is no such thing as an automaker overreacting to a safety defect.”

Chrysler Group Customers on Track to Save $2.5 Billion, 700+ Million Gallons of Gasoline With TorqueFlite Eight-Speed Automatic Transmissions

0
0

June 16, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Fuel savings and emissions reductions attributed to TorqueFlite eight-speed transmissions are adding up to substantial gains for Chrysler Group customers.

The advanced-technology automatics – first of their kind ever made available to mainstream-brand customers – now are powering more than one million vehicles, worldwide. And their combined effect is staggering.

Over their lifetimes, vehicles equipped with TorqueFlite eight-speed transmissions are projected to save their owners more than 700 million gallons of fuel, compared with their predecessors that featured five- or six-speed automatics. That quantity of gasoline is worth approximately $2.5 billion at the pump, based on current fuel-price forecasts.

This will also reduce combined CO2 emissions by more than six million metric tonnes.

TorqueFlite eight-speed transmissions in model-year 2014 vehicles also contribute to 19 Chrysler Group fuel-economy or driving-range benchmarks across four vehicle segments.

“This is precisely the kind of impact we targeted with the TorqueFlite program,” says Jeffrey Lux, Vice President and Head of Transmission Powertrain. “And we fully expect this momentum to continue as we expand availability.”

Starting in model-year 2015, the TorqueFlite 8HP70 transmission can be paired with HEMI®-equipped Dodge Chargers, Challengers and Challenger SRTs.

When the TorqueFlite 8HP45/845RE made its debut in model-year 2012 as the world’s first eight-speed available outside the luxury market, the transmission was mated exclusively to Chrysler Group’s award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 in the Charger and Chrysler 300 lineups.

Since then, the TorqueFlite 845RE and 8HP70 have migrated, respectively, to Pentastar- and HEMI-powered versions of the Dodge Durango, Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee lineups. The 8HP70 also  serves EcoDiesel versions of the 1500 and Grand Cherokee.

With the introduction of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, the TorqueFlite transmission family adds its third member – the 8HP90 high-performance automatic that affords greater torque capacity than any eight-speed previously offered by Chrysler Group.

Depending on the application, a TorqueFlite transmission can account for fuel-economy improvements of up to nine percent, compared with a more conventional automatic.

“The TorqueFlite’s wide 7.03 ratio spread is the reason it can deliver such superior performance,” Lux says. “This enables engines to operate at peak efficiency in a broader range of driving conditions.”

The TorqueFlite family shares these gear ratios:

  • 4.71
  • 3.14
  • 2.10
  • 1.67
  • 1.29
  • 1.00
  • 0.84
  • 0.67

Particularly close from fifth through eighth, the gear ratios also improve refinement by accommodating smoother shifts. In addition, the 4.71 first-gear ratio contributes to the kind of quick throttle response customers want and enjoy.

Fully electronic, the TorqueFlite family’s software adapts the transmission’s shift patterns to driver behavior and driving conditions such as:

  • longitudinal and lateral acceleration
  • grade steepness
  • temperature
  • electronic stability control activation

The TorqueFlite’s design inherently contributes to efficiency. Paired with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 in the 2015 Dodge Challenger, it weighs just four lbs. (1.8 kg) more than the five-speed gearbox it replaces while contributing to a fuel-economy gain in the range of five percent.

Internally, the transmission features four gear sets and five shift elements consisting of multi-disc clutches and brakes. Only two shift elements are open at one time, which reduces drag losses stemming from the rotation of multiple parts.

Lower viscosity transmission fluid is used to improve operating efficiency and fuel economy, especially during cold environments or vehicle start-up. The TorqueFlite also is “fill-for-life,” never requiring oil changes, when subjected to normal driving conditions.

In the Ram 1500, TorqueFlite function benefits further from a thermal management system that quickly raises engine and transmission fluid temperature. This improves fuel efficiency by 1.7 percent by reducing the parasitic losses that occur when engine oil and transmission fluid are in their natural, lower-viscosity states.

Model-year 2014 benchmarks to which TorqueFlite technology contributes are:

  • Best-in-class city fuel economy, 2WD full-sized pickups (20 mpg; Ram 1500)
  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy, 2WD full-sized pickups (28 mpg; Ram 1500)
  • Best-in-class combined fuel economy, 2WD full-sized pickups (23 mpg; Ram 1500)
  • Best-in-class city fuel economy, 4WD full-sized pickups (19 mpg; Ram 1500)
  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy, 4WD full-sized pickups (27 mpg; Ram 1500)
  • Best-in-class combined fuel economy, 4WD full-sized pickups (22 mpg; Ram 1500)
  • Best-in-class city fuel economy, 2WD mid-size SUVs, non-hybrid (22 mpg; Jeep Grand Cherokee)
  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy, 2WD mid-size SUVs (30 mpg; Jeep Grand Cherokee)
  • Best-in-class combined fuel economy, 2WD mid-size SUVs, non-hybrid (25 mpg; Jeep Grand Cherokee)
  • Best-in-class driving range, mid-size SUV (730+ miles; Jeep Grand Cherokee)
  • Best-in-class driving range, full-size SUV with V-6 (600+ miles; Dodge Durango, full-size SUV)
  • Best-in-class driving range, gasoline-powered mid-size SUV (600+ miles; Jeep Grand Cherokee)
  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy, full-size RWD sedan with V-6 (31 mpg highway; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)
  • Best-in-class highway fuel economy, full-size AWD sedan with V-6 (27 mpg city; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)
  • Unsurpassed* city fuel economy, full-size AWD sedan with V-6 (18 mpg city; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)
  • Unsurpassed* combined fuel economy, full-size RWD sedan with V-6 (23 mpg; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)
  • Unsurpassed* combined fuel economy, full-size AWD sedan with V-6 (21 mpg; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)
  • Unsurpassed* city fuel economy, full-size RWD sedan with V-6 (19 mpg; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)
  • Unsurpassed* city fuel economy, full-size AWD sedan with V-6 (18 mpg; Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300)

The TorqueFlite 845RE is produced under license from ZF Friedrichshafen AG at Chrysler Group’s manufacturing complex in Kokomo, IN. The 8HP70 and 8HP90, respectively, are produced at ZF’s plants in Gray Court, SC, and Saarbrucken, Germany.

Why Everyone’s Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

“With 16 powertrain combinations, a huge host of features, and some off-road chops, the 2015 Jeep Renegade could be Chrysler’s ticket across the bridge between old Jeep fans and new ones, and spread their brand around the world. Yes, you can order a manual.

Designed in the US and built in Italy, the Renegade represents a key component of Chrysler’s quest for world domination. They’re hoping the Renegade will get the Jeep brand into the hearts and consciousnesses of more markets around the world, and they just might succeed— it’s a cracking little cute ute.

But it’s a Fiat crossover and I think the last great Jeep was the XJ Cherokee, why should I care?

The new Jeep Renegade has some very cool features and offers something we haven’t had in the US since the Suzuki Samurai; a compact 4WD with an opening roof that’s not a Wrangler.

Ok, any interesting engines?

Sharing the “small-wide” platform with the Fiat 500X, The Renegade will be sold globally with four MultiAir conventional gasoline engines, two MultiJet II diesel engines, and a flex-fuel engine Chrysler calls E.torQ potentially fitted depending on markets.

What are the gearbox options?

An all new and first-for-segment nine-speed automatic will probably be the most commonly ordered gearbox, but two manual and one dual-dry clutch transmission (DDCT) will also see duty in Renegades.

Nine speeds sure sounds like a lot, but it will allow the gearbox to operate through a larger range of ratios than a CVT would. Jeep’s engineers say it will also achieve better efficiency. Plus, I would speculate, better reliability.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

What will we get in the Canada?

Only two of the Renegade’s potential four-cylinder engines will be available in the Canada. Neither is new and sadly, neither is diesel. The 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine from the 160 hp, 184 lb-ft of torque Fiat 500L will only ship with a 6-speed manual in 4×2 or 4×4 for the lower Sport and Latitude trim levels.

Renegade Limited will get the 2.4 Tigershark engine we’ve seen in the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart with 184 hp and 177 lb-ft, here paired with the nine-speed auto. The 2.4 is available in 4×2 or 4×4 as well, and the bigger four-banger is optional in Sport and Latitude trims.

Renegade Trailhawk will only be available with the 2.4, nine-speed auto, and a low-range equipped 4×4 featuring a 20:1 crawl ratio and Jeep’s terrain-response control they call “Selec-Terrain” which adjusts suspension, traction control, and shift points accordingly between five types of terrain.

Jeep has no plans to bring a diesel Renegade to the US, mate the three-pedal to the bigger engine, or make a manual shift Trailhawk. But the mounting points are all there; an ambitious individual could certainly get creative mixing-and-matching powertrain parts, warranty be damned.

Can it off-road?

The 4×4 system in all Renegades except the Trailhawk is Jeep’s “Active Drive” with a fully-automatic power take-off unit that disconnects the rear axle to improve fuel efficiency when four wheel drive isn’t needed. Jeep promises engagement is instantaneous. The range-topping “trail rated” Renegade is full-time 4WD.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

The factory specs regarding the Renegade’s off-road abilities look promising. Some 8″ of ground clearance is plenty for those spots where fire roads get washed out, and 19″ of water fording should get you anywhere you’d want to be with a stock SUV.

For those who aren’t “off-roading” until their wheels are completely submerged in mud or their axles are perpendicular, go find a CJ-7.

Based on what Jeep has presented on paper, the 2015 Renegade looks plenty capable of leaving the bitumen, bringing passengers to interesting places, and rocking roads marked “4WD ONLY.” For most people’s daily driver, not being able to do the Rubicon is a small price to pay for better fuel efficiency and some modern conveniences.

The 2015 Jeep Renegade is built from steel and composites that Jeep says underwent extensive computer-simulated impacts allowing them to fine-tune for “world-class” torsional stiffness.

The Renegade Trailhawk rides 20mm/0.8″ higher than the other models, which have about 7.6″ of total ground clearance, but Trailhawk’s biggest off-road edge is that low-range crawler gear and Jeep’s terrain-response system. The Trailhawk also has skid plates and red tow hooks… which I’m starting to sense are becoming the “red brake calipers” of the off-road world.

Towing capacity for US spec Renegades is a weak 2,000 pounds, and that’s with a tow package on the 2.4. That gets you into light camping trailers, hobie cats, and in-town U-Hauls, but you better leave the powerboat at home.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

What are the performance claims so far?

Speed and fuel economy has not been claimed yet. But for your bench-wheeling pleasure, here are the Renegade Trailhawk’s off-road related specs:

  • Four-wheel independent suspension
  • 205 mm/8.1″ of wheel articulation
  • 220 mm/8.7″ of ground clearance
  • 30.5º approach angle
  • 25.7º degree breakover angle
  • 34.3º degree departure angle
  • 480 mm/19″ inches of water fording
  • Koni frequency selective damping (FSD) front strut and rear shock absorber system
  • Electric power steering (EPS) combined with an driving steering torque (DST) system that directs power appropriately as it detects traction changes in turns.
  • Jeep Active Drive Low (20:1 crawl ratio)
  • Selec-Terrain pre-programed traction control system that adjusts shift points and traction control behavior based on terrain input selected by user
  • Hill-decent Control
  • Skid plates, and red front and rear tow hooks
  • 17-inch all-terrain tires
  • Up to 1,500 kg (3,300-lb.) towing capability with MultiJet II diesel engine and 907 kg (2,000-lb.) towing capability with 2.4-liter Tigershark engine, with available tow package

What about upgrades?

Mopar has already got a list going of about a hundred parts and Jeep-emblazoned trinkets you can strap to your Renegade. Look forward to all kinds of racks, performance parts, and so forth.

As for aftermarket support, independent suspension will put some limitations on extreme lifts but I’m sure there will be plenty of bumpers, sliders, and light bars in short order.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

What new and exciting technology should I care about?

A fully-electric steering system makes spinning the helm easier and modulates the power-assist curve based on driving conditions. Chrysler reckons this worth a 3% fuel economy improvement over a hydraulic power steering system. Plus, no power steering fluid leaks!

A completely new “direct steering torque” (DST) system actively controls oversteer, and is dialed in with the afore mentioned electric power steering to automatically compensate for torque steer and iinconveniences like the pull in crowned roads.

On top of that Jeep boasts “70 advanced safety features” in the 2015 Renegade; gadgets like collision warnings that activate brakes for you and lane-departure warnings that “assist the driver with corrective action” and steer you to safety. That’s a lot of Orwellian robo-driving for a Jeep, but the road-going masses will probably be stoked and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on that in the comments.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

How did Jeep come up with the design?

Jeep Renegade exterior designer Jeremy Glover says “the theme of this car is about personality; playful, fun, exciting, energetic.” Yes when he said “car” he meant “Jeep,” but I think the rest of his assessment is accurate. It looks modern and video-gamey while retaining some marquee heritage, thanks to that grille.

If the Jeep lineup was a family, Renegade would be Wrangler’s little brother who likes to play in the rock gym but isn’t quite tough enough to join big bro on a free-climbing trip.

I like it, even though it kinda looks like a Kia Soul. In fact, the Renegade’s 101.2″ wheelbase is the same as a Soul’s, though the Jeep’s body is 3.6″ longer and it stands 3.5″ taller. It’s also slightly larger than another competitor; the Nissan Juke.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

What’s the interior like?

Inside the Renegade is a realm of “Tek-Tonic.” That’s not a dinosaur-themed cocktail, it’s the codename Jeep has pinned on the design language of the Renegade interior.

What they mean with that name is the Renegade’s interior is “defined by the intersections of soft and tactile forms with rugged and functional details.” For example, the instrument panel is soft, the passenger grab-handle is hard.

The air vent dominating the center console was inspired by sports googles. See it now? Yeah, kinda neat. Another easter egg is a topographical map of off-road mecca Moab, Utah molded into the rubberized tray behind the infotainment “media center,” which features USB, aux inputs, and 12v power.

Chrysler’s Uconnect infotainment system can be had in 5 or 6.5″ touchscreen in the 2015 Jeep Renegade.

Why Everyone's Going Nuts Over The 2015 Jeep Renegade: An Explainer

18.5 cu.ft. of interior storage space expands to 50.8 cu.ft. with rear seats folded flat, but the whole world opens up with that “My Sky” removable sunroof affair up top. Panoramic sunroofs are among my favorite features to proliferate on the automotive scene in the last few years, and this elaboration with “removability” is downright glorious. The roof panels are made of honeycomb fiberglass polyurethane and stow neatly into the vehicle’s cargo area, which is key. If only that bar didn’t have to break up the glass in the middle, damn structural rigidity requirements.

What colors will it come in?

Available exterior colors on the 2015 Renegade will be red, tan, green, blue, silver, black, white, and grey with names like “Commando” and “Omaha.” You’ll be able to order any of those with a black accented roof, which sounds cool.

Interior colors are black, tan, black with red trim, or brown and grey. Or, in Jeepspeak:

  • Leave no trail behind is the “Trespass Black” monotone interior that is accented with our Moroccan sun finishes. This interior has contrast dual tone stitch colors to set one on a new path
  • A little grit, a whole lot of grind is the “Sand Surfing” Black and Warm Sand two-tone interior combination. This combination is highlighted with Satin Chrome accents and features an embossed cloth fabric that provides owners with a visual textural experience
  • Stake your ground is the “Trailhawk” Black monotone interior that features Ruby Red anodized finishes, Ruby Red stitched accents and a unique Trailhawk signature
  • When the sky isn’t the limit is the “Free Falling” Bark Brown and Ski Gray two-tone interior combination with Orange details. The interior is bold with its Anodized orange finishes and the seats themselves will test the limits featuring a new look

How much is it and when can I get one?

The 2015 Jeep Renegade is expected to hit Canadian showrooms at the very end of this year or early next.”

High-tech driving enters mainstream with the Jeep® Cherokee

“Today, we are often seeing the latest technologies introduced first on compact and mid-size vehicles and I was amazed at the level of technology offered in the new 2014 Jeep® Cherokee,” commented Jim Kerr in The Winnipeg Free Press. He continued, “the Cherokee has technology in it you might not find in even the priciest luxury vehicles on the market.” One of the technologies Kerr highlighted, “is Lane-Departure Warning. Although it’s being used by competitors, the Jeep has them all beat. The electricpower steering on the Cherokee simply applies a little torque to the steering wheel so the vehicle moves back toward the centre of the driving lane. The actual operation is so subtle you hardly know it’s working, and it works exceptionally well.”

“The 2014 Dodge Journey is not quite a minivan and not quite a sport-ute,” according to Brian Harper of Driving.ca. He continued, “in other words, it’s kind of like a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Jeep® Grand Cherokee mated and the Dodge Journey is the result.”  Harper commented on the amount of space the vehicle offers, “the second and third-row seats fold flat quick to create 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space, with the front passenger seat also folding flat for carrying longer items.” He also wrote, “buying into the R/T or R/T Rallye option means never needing more power or traction. Although the base powertrain for most Dodge Journeys is a 173-horsepower, 2.4-litre four-cylinder/four-speed automatic combo and includes front-wheel-drive, which provides plenty of power for your needs.”

2014 Ram EcoDiesel reigns king of the full-size pickups “The 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie EcoDiesel has become the only full-size pickup to install a diesel engine in the mass-market of half-ton pickups,” wrote Michael Bettencourt on Autos.ca. He continued, “The Ram 1500 is a frugally sized 3 L V6 and does not just repurpose the heavy duty Ram’s massive 6.7 L turbodiesel engine.” Bettencourt announced, “according to the Canadian government’s updated five-cycle
fuel consumption test, this engine helps make the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel the most fuel-efficient pickup truck on the market, even more so than all four-cylinder pickups that come equipped with automatic transmissions.” Bettencourt explained the popularity of this EcoDiesel, “the European-designed 5.7 L HEMI® V8 diesel engine option just went into production in February and already there’s been a rush of dealer and customer orders for it.” He concluded: “If you know you need a full-size pickup, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel’s extra towing capability over any V6 plus four-cylinder pickup-like fuel economy gives the entire truck a major edge over the competition.”

Tight spot? The Fiat 500 is a good fit!

2013 FIAT 500 GucciIf you’ve driven to downtown Ottawa – or really any city – then you know how frustrating it can be to find a parking spot. What makes it even more maddening is when you think you’ve found a spot – only to find out that it is too small to actually fit your car in. Maybe you even tried to get it in there, only to come to the realization that it wasn’t actually going to happen. Well we’ve got the solution for you – and it’s called the Fiat 500. Yes, the Fiat 500 is truly a joy to park, no matter what the situation is.

Fiat 500 is shorter than the Chevy Spark

With an official length of 11 feet, 7.6 inches, the Fiat 500 is shorter than even the Chevy Spark – one of the vehicles the 500 is often compared to. It also has a significantly shorter turning circle than the spark (30.6 feet, 32.5 feet), making it the choice for those looking to fit their vehicle into tight spaces. Amazingly, the Fiat 500 also has cargo capacity that is just about even with the Spark. When going up against the competition, it’s pretty easy to see why the 500 is such a popular choice.

While you can read about how easy it is to park the Fiat 500 in tight spaces, we would invite you to actually try it out. When you come in for a Fiat 500 test drive, make sure that you ask to park the car at least once. We know how easy it is, but trying yourself is the only true way to experience it.

It’s just another reason that the Fiat 500 – and it’s various other trims – are gaining popularity by the day. Let us know when you are ready to give it a try!

“Accessible performance has always been a hallmark of the Abarth name,” said Jason Stoicevich, Head of FIAT Brand for North America, Chrysler Group LLC. “Now, with the addition of an optional automatic transmission, an entirely new group of customers will be able to experience the thrill of driving the Fiat 500 Abarth lineup. Fiat 500 Abarth sales increased more than 16 percent during this year, and we expect this sales success to continue with the launch of this new automatic transmission.”

Production also begins today for the 2015 Fiat 500 Turbo, which features an optional automatic transmission for this model year. The full 2015 Fiat 500 lineup, with interior updates such as an innovative instrument panel with a 7-inch high-definition color display, will arrive at FIAT studios later this summer.

FIAT brand sales were up 18 percent in May, its best ever monthly sales since the brand returned to the U.S. market in 2011. It was the brand’s sixth-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. The Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio, with its 66 percent year-over-year increase, recorded the largest percentage sales gain of any Fiat 500 model in May.

Ram Truck Continues Building a Commercial Presence with New 2015 Ram ProMaster City, Offering Best-in-class Specs Where They Count

0
0

June 26, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The 2015 Ram ProMaster City is Ram’s newest addition to its commercial vehicle lineup, and contributes to the expanding, purpose-built, van segment with a number of best-in-class, functional elements tied directly to commercial customer demand. The new Class 1 entry opens a door for incremental growth of Ram’s brand sales volumes.

Joining the larger and highly capable Ram ProMaster and popular Ram C/V as a Class 1 van offering, the 2015 Ram ProMaster City will compete with compact commercial and passenger vans with best-in-class attributes in the areas that count: payload capacity, cargo area, performance and fuel economy.

“As businesses strive for lower costs, the demand for a smaller, more efficient van has increased and Ram Commercial is answering the bell with the all-new ProMaster City,” said Reid Bigland, President and CEO — Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “Years ago, the selection of delivery and cargo vehicles was limited and those offerings didn’t focus on cost of ownership. Today all of that has changed with the recent introduction of the full-size Ram ProMaster, and the now the Ram ProMaster City.”

Ram Truck is tapping into Fiat Professional, one of the largest producers of commercial vehicles in the entire world, backed by more than 110 years of experience. That knowledge has helped Ram Truck enter new segments and expand its product line.

Based on the successful Fiat Doblò, a two-time International Van of the Year winner with more than 1.3 million units sold, the Ram ProMaster City will incorporate familiar Ram Truck design elements and offer features, systems and powertrains preferred by North American customers. The 2015 Ram ProMaster City is the brand’s second shared collaboration with Fiat Professional. The 2014 Ram ProMaster full-size van was the first.

Engineered for the North American market
Whether the job is delivering packages, organizing and hauling the tools of a professional tradesman or carting the band’s gear to the next gig, the all-new 2015 Ram ProMaster City van is designed and engineered to tackle big jobs with best-in-class cargo area, payload capacity and standard fuel economy. It does so while delivering versatile functionality, durability and superior ride and handling.

The 2015 Ram ProMaster City shares its basic design with the highly successful, two-time International Van of the Year Fiat Doblò, which is sold around the world. Now in its third generation, the Fiat Doblò is the preferred workhorse for business and commercial uses, a status gained via its ideal size for crowded urban environments and a host of thoughtful and innovative features.

Starting with a winning template, Ram Truck engineers subjected the front-wheel-drive van to the full spectrum of severe-duty use expected of commercial vehicles in North America. The lessons from millions of combined development miles make the 2015 Ram ProMaster City more robust, durable, functional, comfortable and cost effective for any use.

The 2015 Ram ProMaster City will be offered in two-seat Tradesman cargo van and five-seat passenger Wagon configurations.

Unibody design: rugged and weight smart
The foundation of the 2015 Ram ProMaster City is a steel unibody design. The unibody architecture helps minimize curb weight, a key contributor to the ProMaster City’s best-in-class payload capability of 1,883 pounds. A best-in-class wheelbase of 122.4 inches offers impressive ride and handling while creating the space needed for the largest cargo area in the segment.

Suspension
The Ram ProMaster City’s front axle uses a proven, durable and compact MacPherson strut suspension, tuned for rougher North American roads and class-leading payload capacity.

In a departure from standard practice in the Class 1 van category of using rear leaf springs, the Ram ProMaster City upgrades to an independent, coil-sprung bi-link rear suspension. The ProMaster City’s rear suspension incorporates a category-unique independent bi-link configuration that increases driving comfort, enhances stability, and ensures maximum safety characteristics in all load situations.

Front-wheel drive
The Ram ProMaster City uses a front-wheel-drive layout that provides several benefits:

  • Fewer mechanical parts, resulting in less weight, lower maintenance costs (in large part because there’s no rear differential), enhanced mechanical efficiencies and enhanced fuel efficiency
  • Optimal cab and cargo compartment space, attributable to the absence of a transmission/prop shaft tunnel – a key enabler to achieving a flat floor in the cargo compartment area
  • More predictable handling in emergency maneuvers (reduced over- and under-steer characteristics)
  • Enhanced traction in rain, mud and snow, a result of the engine weight being situated over the drive wheels
  • Greater payload capacity due to lighter overall vehicle weight

Dimensions
The Ram ProMaster City is thoughtfully designed with working people in mind.

The hard-working credentials start with a 48.4-inch span between the rear wheel wells, the widest in the class. Construction tradesmen know that 48 inches is a common dimension for building materials and loaded pallets – yet those materials rarely measure exactly 48 inches. The width between the ProMaster City’s wheel wells provides an extra margin of capacity so that building materials and pallets can be loaded quickly and easily, without concern over whether the load fits.

Above the wheel wells, the ProMaster City’s nearly vertical side panels give it a best-in-class width of 60.4 inches. Combined with an interior roof height of 51.8 inches, the result is best-in-class volume of 131.7 cubic feet for the cargo van version of the ProMaster City. The vertical side panels are upfitter-friendly and simplify the attachment of shelves or storage racks for specialized commercial use.

The floor of the ProMaster City cargo van measures 87.2 inches in length and is fitted with six standard equipment D-ring tie downs to secure cargo in place.

Each side of the Ram ProMaster City is fitted with a sliding door with a 26-inch opening to access the cargo compartment. The roof of the Ram ProMaster City is prepped for load rails or roof racks, available through Mopar with a weight capacity of 154 pounds.

The rear of the Ram ProMaster City is fitted with 60/40 split swing doors. Using lessons learned from European customers, the larger door swings open toward the traffic (driver) side of the van, making it easy to quickly access larger cargo items and not block the path to the curbside of the van. Both rear doors initially swing open 90 degrees, and – for dock loading – can swing to 180 degrees with a simple press of a release button on the door latch. The latch automatically re-engages when the door is closed.

The passenger wagon version of the Ram ProMaster City is equipped with a three-passenger second row. The second-row seating is split 60/40, with each section capable of folding and tumbling forward to expand cargo room. With the seats in place, the ProMaster City passenger wagon offers close to four feet of cargo length to the rear doors. With seats folded and tumbled, Ram’s new van provides nearly six feet of cargo length.

Upfitter friendliness
Ram Truck is known industry-wide for being the most upfitter-friendly brand in the truck market. The Ram ProMaster City continues the tradition and features a variety of available upfit systems through Mopar. Adding to the design for adaptability, virtually all primary vehicle systems are packaged forward of the cargo area, leaving the box open to creativity.

Powertrain
The 2015 Ram ProMaster City’s powertrain combines MultiAir2 engine technology and an exclusive nine-speed automatic transmission to deliver best-in-class performance and best-in-class combined fuel efficiency.

Tigershark
The all-new 2015 Ram ProMaster City is powered by the 2.4-liter Tigershark I-4. The engine generates a best-in-class 178 horsepower at 6,400 rpm, while its peak torque – 174 lb.-ft. (231 N•m) at 3,900 rpm – is greater than any standard-equipment engine in the ProMaster City’s segment. The engine’s thoughtful construction also suits its Tigershark moniker, while benefiting the ProMaster City’s rugged duty cycle.

The engine’s four-valve aluminum head hosts advanced valve-actuation technology that is exclusive to Chrysler Group in North America. Dubbed MultiAir2, the acclaimed electro-hydraulic fully variable system uses a column of oil in place of the traditional mechanical link between the camshaft and intake valves. As a result, it affords precise control of the intake-valve events – beginning and end – which reduces engine-pumping losses, increases volumetric efficiency and cuts carbon-dioxide emissions.

Engine accessory drives tighten the ProMaster City’s grip on best-in-class fuel efficiency. “Smart alternator management” and a variable A/C compressor tap the most efficient times to initiate a duty cycle. Unlike most alternator systems, which operate continually, the ProMaster City’s smart-charge system uses moments of deceleration or braking to run at capacity when necessary. The variable A/C compressor has the ability to operate at multiple speeds rather than full-capacity and off. By reducing the need for full-capacity compressor cycles, engine load is decreased, giving efficiency a boost. Load reduction also translates into overall performance.

Transmission
The centerpiece of the all-new ProMaster City’s powertrain is its segment-exclusive nine-speed automatic transmission. The ProMaster City is the first commercial van ever to feature a nine-speed automatic, and one of the first vehicles to be so equipped in automotive history.

Also known as the 948TE, the transmission is part of the ProMaster City’s standard equipment list. Leveraging its wide gear ratio spread and 3.73:1 final-drive ratio, the advanced-technology transmission and well-matched engine will combine to deliver fuel economy ratings unsurpassed by any standard-equipment powertrain in the ProMaster City’s segment.

The 948TE delivers the right response at the right time. Its 4.70 first-gear ratio delivers the kind of acceleration required of nimble delivery vans: 0-to-30 mph in an estimated 3.7 seconds and 0-to-60 mph in an estimated 9.8 seconds.

The new transmission also delivers power smoothly, a result of optimized gear-ratio steps, which provide the perfect balance of power, comfort and fuel economy. While the 948TE is plenty efficient on its own, Electronic Range Select (ERS) offers hands-on control of its unique capabilities. ERS allows customers to manually set the highest available gear for a particular task, such as operating under heavy loads. The result is enhanced throttle response when it is needed most.

Design
The Ram design team started with a functional exterior and interior, adding distinct Ram styling while adapting the new van for North America.

Exterior
The exterior design and related body systems on the all-new 2015 Ram ProMaster City collectively deliver outstanding versatility, practicality and a level of refinement unexpected in the commercial small van category. Exterior styling is identified by smooth body lines, wraparound bumpers and twin-reflector headlamp clusters. Although the cargo area is carry-over from the previous model year Fiat Doblò, from the front door cut forward the Ram ProMaster City is all new, encompassing the signature crosshair grille and ram’s head logo as the focal point.

The fluid body lines give ProMaster City a strong, modern and professional representation and assure its presence in the Ram Commercial lineup. The tucked front-wheel-drive packaging is compact allowing for a short hood. This design provides a better vantage point of the front corners, useful when maneuverability is key and important to commercial customers.

Borrowing from its big brother, the ProMaster City’s front and rear bumpers run high on the body to keep functional lighting out of danger, resulting in reduced repair costs and downtime.

The new van features plenty of real estate on all sides. This space allows for businesses to post signage and graphics – a rolling billboard to help promote the owner’s business or sponsor. Three different window options are available on both trim levels.

The Ram ProMaster City may be loaded and unloaded multiple times a day, leaving impressive dimensions and capacities as must-have features. The Ram ProMaster City offers a cargo area width of 60.4 inches, a cargo area height of 51.8 inches and a step-in height of 21.5 inches. In addition, on each side of the vehicle there is a small, practical step that allows the user to get into the load area.

Interior
The Ram ProMaster City Tradesman and SLT trim levels use a simplified color palette with durable fabrics. Inspiration for the all-black with gray accents came from items that can be found in a vocational environment: tool boxes, hand tools and lumber. The new van achieves a commanding presence that promotes roominess, ergonomics and practicality for increasingly demanding customers who depend on their vehicle as a partner for vocational use or to transport passengers.

Interior design and function is paramount for a light commercial van in which the driver may be on the road for most of the day, sometimes under harsh conditions. The cabin of the ProMaster City was therefore designed with comfortable driving ergonomics, important because the van may be a mobile office and/or small work shop.

ProMaster City cargo models offer a load compartment with an easy, four-way access, best-in-class cargo volume of 131.7 cubic feet and cargo width of 60.4 inches. Because goods always need to be transported securely, the new van is fitted with accommodations to hold down goods on the floor. Six tie-down rings, with a 1,000-pound combined rating, fold away to maintain a flat floor for easy loading and unloading operations. A high roof height allows ease of movement when working in the cargo area and contributes to best-in-class standard cargo capacity.

Ideal for locksmiths, caterers, package delivery, telecommunications, heating and cooling, painters or florists, the best-in-class 48.4-inch width between wheel wells allow the ProMaster City to load up a full-size pallet. Wagon models feature four tie-down rings, a full length headliner and carpet that covers the floor. Panel moldings cover the rear of cargo area, up, over and around the wheel wells and additional storage trays at seated shoulder level incorporate a retractable cover to keep cargo out of view.

Safety and security
Safety and security were two of the guiding principles followed by engineers throughout the development of the new 2015 Ram ProMaster City. Ram’s new Class 1 van offers 34 active and passive safety and security features. The ProMaster City also includes standard ESC, hosting a number of technologies to assist the driver. Security also means notification of the traffic around you. Ram ProMaster City features available ParkView backup camera and ParkSense with audible warning, all of which are useful when maneuvering in the city.

Electronic stability control
The standard electronic stability control (ESC) system on the new Ram ProMaster City is a sophisticated four-channel (independent control to all four corners of the vehicle) active handling system that links the vehicle’s dynamic control systems to assist the driver in maintaining control under demanding or adverse conditions such as wet, snow-covered or icy roads, tight turns and evasive maneuvers. In effect, the ESC determines the driver’s intentions and optimizes overall vehicle control to keep the dynamic forces within select limits in any driving situation – nearly transparent so control seems almost intuitive.

Uconnect
ProMaster City customers can make the best use of their valuable time by leveraging Uconnect’s easy-to-learn, easy-to-use interface – acclaimed for its convenience and sensible design. Handsfree calling in the all-new 2015 Ram ProMaster City is made convenient via reliable Bluetooth technology. A full-color, five-inch touchscreen is available with global positioning satellite (GPS) navigation, providing Ram ProMaster City customers the ability to chart time-saving routes to their destinations. Uconnect Web, powered by Autonet Mobile, is available to U.S. customers. This system delivers continuous Internet connectivity, creating an efficient workspace and real-time information access on the go.

Best practices
In total, the Ram ProMaster City test fleet accumulated millions of miles enabling Ram and Fiat teams access to real-world data. This includes testing performed in laboratories in Turin, Italy and Auburn Hills, Mich., at Fiat and Chrysler Group proving grounds, as well as reliability testing on public roads in many different climates in Europe and the United States.

The 3/36 Reliability Testing, appropriately named as each test car accumulates 36,000 miles (equivalent to three years of use) in about three months, is conducted day and night by teams of drivers. To reflect typical daily driver scenarios, the test drivers do not originate from the engineering ranks and are intentionally chosen from diverse backgrounds to represent customers of different ages, sizes and ethnicities. The test drivers scrutinize all the customer functional aspects of each vehicle as well as overall driving evaluations. This includes radio and navigation system checks, seat-belt buckling, heating and ventilation operation and opening and closing storage compartments and windows.

July 1, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT, with its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® Hellcat engine, produces an unprecedented 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful Challenger ever, Dodge’s most powerful V-8 ever and the most powerful muscle car ever.

The Challenger’s new 6.2-liter Supercharged Hellcat engine is also the first factory supercharged HEMI, as well as Dodge and SRT’s first application of V-8 supercharger technology. For the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs — red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full 707 horsepower and torque potential of the Challenger SRT Hellcat engine; while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output of 500 horsepower.

In addition to the awe-inspiring 707 horsepower of the new Hellcat HEMI, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been redesigned and totally re-engineered to be the most true-to-form muscle coupe on the market with performance-enhancing technologies inside and out, including the new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-new interior inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger.

The Dodge and SRT brands now offer the most complete lineup of muscle cars in the market, including the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT with its standard powerful and fuel-efficient Pentastar V-6 engine combined with the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission that delivers 300 horsepower and an estimated 30 miles per gallon; the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T with the high-torque 5.7-liter HEMI now paired with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual transmission; and the all-new 6.4-liter HEMI Challenger Scat Pack that delivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque with the TorqueFlite eight-speed or six-speed manual.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRTs are built at the Brampton, Ontario, Assembly Plant and will start arriving in Dodge dealerships in the third quarter of 2014.

July 2, 2014 , Windsor, Ontario - Chrysler Canada announced today, that at the halfway point of calendar year 2014, it has retained its position as the number one-seller of new vehicles in the country. June 2014 sales were 27,013 units, compared with 26,222 in June 2013, representing a 3 per cent increase.

“Strong June sales have contributed to our best calendar-year-to-date sales since 1988,” said David Buckingham, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Canada. “We have now achieved 55 months of year-over-year sales growth, the longest streak in our company’s history. A product portfolio which continues to broaden and appeal to Canadians is the key to this success story.”

Sales Highlights
The Jeep brand is a global pillar of Chrysler Group LLC and has legendary heritage which can be traced back more than 70 years. As the number-one selling SUV brand in the country, this family of vehicles resonates with Canadians for their capability, craftsmanship, technology and value.

In Canada, the Jeep brand experienced a June sales record with 6,817 units sold. Again, the iconic Jeep Wrangler led the charge, with 2,553 units sold. Offered as a two-door or four-door ‘Unlimited’ model, Wrangler offers not only go-anywhere capability, but also the unique opportunity to own a vehicle which has not only a removable roof, but also removable doors and a fold-down windscreen.

Rich with Italian heritage and La Dolce Vita attitude, the Fiat brand set a June sales record with 854 units sold, an increase of 12 per cent over 2013. From the subcompact and efficient 500 and 500c, to the family-minded 500L and even the pocket-rocket Abarth models, the storied Fiat brand continues to find Canadian fans since returning to our shores in 2011.

The Dodge brand meanwhile, is currently celebrating its centennial year as North America’s mainstream performance brand. From muscle cars to compact cars, minivans, crossovers and full-size SUVs, Dodge models deliver best-in-class horsepower, class-exclusive technology, unmatched capability and a slew of unique features.

Built from a European-derived Alfa Romeo chassis, the Dodge Dart enjoyed its best June sales to date with 1,064 units sold. A simplification of the Dart lineup for 2014 and expanded availability of the muscular 184-horsepower 2.4-litre Tigershark four-cylinder engine helped Dart resonate with discerning Canadian compact car shoppers.

June was also a strong month for sales of the Canadian-built Dodge Grand Caravan and its sister product, the Chrysler Town & Country. A combined total 5,420 of the Windsor, Ontario-built minivans were sold, marking an increase of 5 per cent over June 2013. Those sales helped these iconic vehicles retain their 30-year-long position as Canada’s best-selling minivans.

Finally, the overall Ram Truck brand and Ram pickups set June sales records, continuing a momentum that began in 2009 when Ram became a stand-alone brand focused on building the world’s best lineup of trucks. In total 8,034 Ram trucks were sold in June 2014, up 6 per cent from June 2013. Ram pickup sales increased to 7,251 units for June 2014, up 1 per cent over sales from the same month last year.

The Ram Truck Brand ended June 2014 by announcing the newest addition to its commercial vehicle lineup. The 2015 Ram ProMaster City arrives later this year – in cargo van and five-seat passenger Wagon configurations – with several best-in-class features from horsepower to cargo volume.
